make compaq IA (from what I can tell it is an IA, not an IA-1) like it was originally

My grandmother decided to upgrade to a full PC instead of just her compaq IA. I would like to sell this on ebay, but her user accounts are still all over this thing. She has already deleted her MSN account, so I can't sign on as the main user to manage accounts. Is there any way to default this thing so I get the setup wizard I saw when she first baught this thing?

i can't remember all the details, but i posted them in a support message from the Microsoft web site on the original Compaq IA message topic, last year. the IA holds a backup image of it's factory software on the second partition of the internal SanDisk, and there's a diagnostic screen in the MSN software that allows you to input a "magic" keyword to restore the factory image, effectively erasing everything to OEM status. i'll try looking back, and see if i can locate it for you . . .

all the magic words (FIXIT, HAMMER, MURMUR) are described at this Microsoft link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B279064

These codes are:
FIXIT - gives access to advanced dialing settings; also lets you change the password that is stored on the device and used for automatic login. (See: Q278481 - MSN Companion Troubleshooting Tool FIXIT)

HAMMER - resets all dialing settings (See: Q274364 - MSN Companion Troubleshooting Tool HAMMER)

MURMUR - removes all of the current user's information, and reset the device so that you can use a new Member ID. (See: Q279037 - MSN Companion Troubleshooting Tool MURMUR)

See the article on each secret code for more details.

okay, it looks like MURMUR has been removed from the web site, since it was replaced in MSN Companion V2.0.
here's the new link for the magic keywords revised for V2.0:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B301489

keywords: dialing, mail, setup, erase, failsafe

have fun . . .

thank you so much. I did not want to sell this stuff with her personal info. To save others the work of going through the links, much of the info above seems to be for Companion 1.0. Companion 2.0 info does work though. To set the software back to original settings I just typed "erase" when I went into the connection settings, clicked I have a problem that isn't listed here. The machine re-booted and I was prompted with a set me up type wizard.

Thanks again!! Woo hoo.. I get to make some money on ebay
