Reducing DamnSmallLinux to 32 Mb
to fit into internal DiskOnChip

Hi all,

My Compaq has 32 Mb internal DOC. And I would like to do the following:

-create an image for DamnSmallLinux which is equal or smaller than 32 mb
-flash it into internal DOC
-boot Compaq using that image to have basic system (X, file manager etc....) and support for USB-lan
-than if we need it we can load additional application from network drive or CompactFlash (MyDSL)

Also I need azerty keybord layout (Dutch-Belgium - Belgian-Comma) and I do not know how to set it.

Thank you!

There are several ways to get DSL running on a IA-1. I used a 128 MB CF card that plugged into the card slot and it booted directly from there.
I also used a boot image on an 8 mb cf card to boot DSL from a 128 mb
flash drive.... most of this is documented on the DSL site. If I remember correctly, the USB mouse was VERY nervous under DSL...and
my 75 year old eyes weren't very compatible with the IA-1 display
All of this was sometime ago ... My AI-1 has not been used for some time.
Look around in the DSL forums... lots of CF/FLASH card discussions.

Good luck

Thank you for reply, Ted

The idea is to have basic systen -without- CF card. Say set of application in Midori is good enough to be called basic system. But midori does not allow me to load additional application. Correct me, if I am wrong. And with DSL we can load them.

Is there some other Linux distro which I can load from internal 32 Mb DiskOnChip and have a basic system? And I wish it alow me load additional application from CF or LAN or USB flash drive. Or do I want too much? :)))
