Hey, here's a device you guys are gonna like. Its a wireless chat device, multiplayer gaming machine, and PDA rolled into one. It uses a 900 Mhz radio with a data rate of 19200 bps. Check it out at:

http://www.cybiko.com/

The price is normally $129, but if you enter one of these codes you can get one for $103.20. I recemmend buying a pair of them. Type the code into the secret code box on the main page. Here are secret codes that work:

AJ9732
AJ9679
AJ9168

The SDK and the wireless protocol details are going to be open and free.

You can also dedicate one unit as a wireless gateway to the internet. Then all other units in your house can send and receive email wirelessly. I don't think it will be long before someone writes a WAP browser application, either.

These are #### because no one is buying them. They were promoted as a kids toy rather than a geektoy and it is too damn expensive as a kids toy. So no one has one of these and when you get yours, there is no way to use it because you need other Cybiko's in your immediate area to communicate with. They are therefore ####.

Actually, I think these have potential. Sure, kids can have fun with them -- you'll need two or more Cybikos and two or more kids to enjoy them, lol, preferably one Cybiko per kid.

But as for the adult geek appeal, if you hook one Cybiko up to your computer, you can use the other Cybiko to send and receive email wirelessly, using your computer as the gateway. This isn't exactly a solution for industrial (read "serious") applications. However, it might make for some idle, albeit pricey, fun. More interestingly, perhaps, is the rumor that web browsing isn't too far off. If that occurs, then you'll use your Cybiko-attached regular computer as a gateway for the first Cybiko which would communicate wirelessly with that. I'm sure we're talking rudimentary browsing -- news, stock quotes, etc., but it still might be fun to fool around with.

An SDK is available so you can write your own applications. I see potential uses for this as an RF terminal for remote control applications in the home. For example, you could control your PC based MP3 or DVD player using two of these. They are better than than a Palm device for this since they come with the RF feature built-in. I could also use two of them to wirelessly extend RS-232.

This secret code also works: AO4153

If you order today they are throwing in an MP3 player.
