I live in the UK, and now I want one !

I have an x10 sstem, and would be a nice toy to use to contrl it.
Also, does this thing have a PCMCIA port ? I could then plug in a PCMCIA network card, and use my existing broadband internet connection (no need for the internal modem)

Are there stocks of this thing anywhere ?

Thanks all !

G.

Gareth -
yes and no. Yes they have a PCMCIA slot, but no, they're really isn't much of "stock" anywhere. Some places in the US sell them sporadically, but the only sure way you could pick one up is from Salton at $499 (US) or take your chances on eBay where I believe they're averaging about $250 to $300.

Read some of these threads and you'll see what people are doing with them. You can use the X-10 Firecracker module to control your X-10 devices...

Also, you might want to to consider that browsing on the ePods is painfully slow -- even with a broadband connection. The trick is to use Windows NT 2000 Server with Terminal Services, or Citrix; browsing is much more pleasant as the server is doing all the processing.

I'm currently running Windows 2000 Pro... can I run terminal services that my ePods can control? If so, can you please point me where to look?
Thanks,
Neutron

Sorry to said that.. Windows2000 Pro doesn't support Terminal Server, you need Windows2000 Server or Windows2000 Advance Server.

I am running TS on NT2000 server and have in addition a WEB server in the house doing X-10 things utilizing Homeseer by Keeware (HTTP://www.keware.com). Runs great! Have my EPod at the 1.X version of the Hack, using a WAVLAN wireless NIC, 64M of additional memory. I am now using it all over the house reading it like a Newspaper (browsing, email and X-10)...weird how fast I got used to it...

Pete,

I'm also running W2k server and Homeseer. I noticed some issues when upgrading from Win98. Specifically my scripts that control my RCS thermostats no longer work properly. Have you seen any similar problems.

With the network in the house I am utilizing different PC's to do different applications. I have a dedicated NT 2000 server currently just used for CE TS browsing, HS PC running ME just used for X-10 and Speech, Video Cam PC (running 98 pushing video to the X-10 HS pc) and two PC's dealing with the firewall only. What's your email I will send the link....?

Pete,

Sounds interesting!

I have a Win2K server for TS, ME for HS and and a firewall pc. I wanted to move HS over to the W2K server so I could control the native HS GUI from the epod - but I noticed I can't seem to control the console using TS.

My email is: nykr95@aol.com

I tried PC-Anywhere (as it is running so that I can get to the Console app on HS) but could not get it to work on CE. I would assume that running the TS to the 2000 server running HS console would work....thought it emulated everything but sound...try using the client on a wireless setup PC...

GarethCook,
I have an ePods and some wireless equipment for sale. Fully 2.04 hacked with hardware DOC bypass soldered on so you can really mess around and not worry about not being able to boot. e-mail if interested at steveparis@hotmail.com
