ePod Battery Stress testing

New MessageePod Battery Stress testing (modified 0 times) SiliconIce
I was wondering just how long the ePods battery will last under worst-case conditions, so I am stress testing it.

I have it set up playing an MPEG from a MicroDrive continuously. The MicroDrive playing an MPEG should be just about one of the most power-intensive activities an ePod does.

Right now, i am at 80% power after 2.5 hours...I think the battery monitor is not very accurate.
Yesterday, mine dropped fro 60% to 10% in 30mins, so this is what sparked my interest.

I'll let you guys know my findings.

What size Micro Drive are you using and what did you have to pay for it. I've got a project in the works to be able to use a pcCard drive thats a type3 for doing mp3s.

Testing finished!
Using my 340MB MicroDrive (in the PCMCIA slot adapter in the ePods) the ePod lasted about 3 hours and 50 minutes while playing Gladiator (2.5 hours, 170MB MPEG) before shutting down. The last 40% of power (according to the batt mon) went in about 15mins. It looked like it was going to go the whole 6 hours under stress, but no.

Not bad, about 4 hours under intensive processing and disk access.

BTW, I payed $190 shipped for my 340MB MicroDrive stuff (340MB Drive, PCMCIA adapter, cases for them, and a USB CF reader with USB cable). I got it on ebay in an auction by Cititronics.com, they have MicroDrive kit auctions all the time, but sell them for $249.99 on their site. I missed getting one for $174 by seconds before I got mine at $182 +8shipping. I was surprised it works in the PCMCIA slot in the ePods. And it is VERY fast transferring files to, 1 min., to get Gladiator onto it.

Did you know you can buy the DVD of gladiator used for only around 15 bucks and see high definition quality. I can't imagine how jerky and crappy the sound would be on the epods.

Not really the point, at several levels.

Sheesh...

Anyone that thinks I would watch movies (besides just to see if it can be done) on an ePod is crazy! I did it just for the heck of it. It was fun.

Yes, it is tiny and fuzzy and has very poory audio quality. I was just trying to see just how much power the ePods has. I was relatively impressed.

About the DVD, where'd you think I got the movie from anyway...
