New Orinoco/WAVELAN Software Release
Wireless

New MessageNew Orinoco/WAVELAN Software Release (modified 0 times) Pete
Orinoco has released updates to their CE software. It is dated 03/16/2001. I am wondering if they fixed the drivers. Anyone else try the new drivers yet?

I hope to try them, just got my epods today and still need to get active sync running. Seems to be the only way to get them installed properly as setup.exe will only run on a CE device, but the epods can't execute it.

I had no problems using active sync (IR) installing the wireless drivers. Deleting programs though is a manual process.

ok..i need help getting these things installed. I have the file unzipped onto the epods but it doesn't recognize the setup.exe as a valid CE application, also, I can't get it to do anything with the .cab files either. Any suggestions?

Setup needs to be run on your PC while Active Sync is on... It'll then install the proper files on the ePods...

Ok, thought that might be the trick. Unfortunately i'm stuck without a serial cable for the time being. I'll have to remedy that. BTW, Pete, which set of drivers did you install? Looks like there are 3 versions, P, B and C, with P being the v. 12 version. Just curious.

Ok, dug up the cable and got the drivers installed. However I can't get them to work it seems. Tried DHCP, tried assigning a static IP and nada. Anyone with a working Orinoco setup care to post the settings for their card? The specific card settings as well as the settings under the 'Tools' option on the window that pops up that allows you to modify profiles.

I have not installed the new drivers but think in my original set up had installed the HP drivers (2.11). I could not get DHCP to work but was able to assign an IP, subnet mask and gateway. After doing this it functioned correctly. Switching from the power saver mode to non-power saver mode noticed no change in function but did notice that the power LED remained on when not in power saving mode and flickers when it wasn't in power saving mode. I also noticed that my network indicator light did not function (even putting the "netdetect" app in startup) but later adding the gateway to the DNS and WINS entries (same gateway for all) the net led started to function. My only issue with the old drivers was the dropping of sessions when moving a lot of data across the network. Hopefully this has been fixed in the new upgrade. I have yet to update my Epod (as it is being upgraded to 32 megs). I did upgrade the bios revs on all of my WAVELAN cards and did notice that the PC client is much improved with many added features and diagnostic utilities.

I have installed this and am in the process of testing. It is looking good though and I have tried all the normal things that used to hang it (playing video, animated gifs and typing a lot ??) without a hang. I will keep you posted though.

Can anybody confirm if the new version has fixed the random drop outs in W2K Terminal Services?

I can now confirm that the new drivers indeed do not cause
the Wavelan card to hang. IE Flaming Icon. I also have the
Epods net led working correctly. In summary I have:

Epods-32 (Thks Glitch)
Hacked to update 2.X
64 Meg MF card
16 Bit color hack
Lucent Bronze & Silver (both work - newest Orinoco firmware)
Most current Orinoco Ce 2.12 client
Static IP (still can't can't get DHCP working properly...I have
seeen messages that other people have it working with Wavelan cards)

when you say that you have the net led working, what do you mean? I use my pod with a wavelan in ad-hoc mode to hit a Terminal Server.

The network indicator on the EPOD. I use a bridge. Tested new Orinoco drivers tonight
for over 3 hours working it by copying to and from other networked PCs. No problems! No flaming icons! Orinoco must have been aware of the bugs in the previous versions and corrected them.

Sorry, my question wasn't very clear. With your setup, what causes the net light to turn on and off? Connecting to your AP? or...?

Just having the NIC card plugged in.

Pete

Were you running your test using terminal services or just a straight LAN connection on the Epod?

I ran my test in TS and regular LAN Mode. In full power mode also.
