ePod/Terminal Services problems - so close!!!

New MessageePod/Terminal Services problems - so close!!! (modified 0 times) Nezza
I'm using an Orinico wireless card to connect to win2K terminal services and I have the following probs:

1) When I connect to TS, the screen colors on the epod go very odd! Lots of red! The screen is still readable however.

2) Using the terminal services connection wizard I created a shortcut with my log in name etc to be placed on the desktop. However I can't see the shortcut on my desktop (in fact I have nothing on my desktop, just a white screen!) My 'pod has been hacked for me, to version 2.04 I think, but don't quote me...

With regards to fixing 1) the read me file for the CE TS client states a registry fix for corrupt colors, but I can't find a working registry editor anywhere? I copied the Tascel reg edit .CAB to the 'pod as stated and tried to execute it. It wont let me run it!

I'd be very grateful if you could help with these, I'm so close to a kick ass setup here!

Cheers

Nezza

Well, on the instructions, it says the hack is not complete until you see the colors on the screen. Each hack I have done, I have to reimport the registry in order for it to work.

My advice is to go to Start - System and run the registry editor from there. If it does not have the correct icon, then use the file browser to browse over to the original location that the hack gives (epods files, etc...). Then reimport the registry and reset per the instructions, then start over with the installations of the apps.

Definitely, make sure the hack works first before you try to get TS working.

Once you do, the next thing you'll discover is that even though you put in a login name and password into the wizard, when you double click the shortcut that it (really!) will place on the desktop, you'll still be forced to log in to the server manually (a dialog will come up). This is the way TS works, and there doesn't seem to be any way around it.

Finally, it is likely that your normal Admin account on your w2k server is set up for a higher resolution than VGA. My recommendation is for you to create a new user account on the w2k machine (make it part of the admin group or it won't work with TS!) specifically for your pod. That way, you can set up the destktop scheme in a way that looks best for the pod. Oh, and one last suggestion, if you can cope with the huge breach of security, make that account have an empty password. That way, when the login dialog comes up on the pod, you just hit OK and you are in. I don't think there is any way to make the account only useable via TS (this would help with security), but you can tell TS to only accept connections over your wireless NIC.

hope this helps!

You can configure your Win2k server to enable an automatic (ie logon prompt is filled in by the server) connection to Terminal Services...

0. Select Control Panel...Admin Tools...Terminal Services Configuration.
1. Select the Connection Node in the Left Hand Pane.
2. In the Right Hand Pane, select the connection you wish to configure, right click it and select properties.
3. Select the Logon Settings Tab, Select "Always use the following logon information", fill in the account and password details.
4. Uncheck "Always prompt for password".

...et volia, no need for a blank password, and no need to hit OK at the Logon Dialog. This tip came by way of a chat I had with Frazzlebob, thanks FB!

The reimport worked fine, I now have wireless access via terminal services to Inter/Intranet. Once you get this stuff working it is very cool. I showed it to my mate and he was blown away!!
