I saw a bunch of old active sync problem questions and I just got mine working so I wanted to give my two cents worth.
I found I had to set the Flow Control on my desktop to Xon/Xoff instead of Hardware to get it to work. Before that, they would see each other but not connect.

Oh, and I still have the Flow Control on the ePods set to Hardware.
