Cheap Linksys Wireless 802.11 Deal

New MessageCheap Linksys Wireless 802.11 Deal (modified 0 times) Kalima
Best Buy has an advertised special on networking hardware including wireless. Check out your local Best Buy or www.bestbuy.com for the following deals.
Linksys Instant Wireless Network Access Point WAP11
$299.99 - $100.00(Instant Rebate) - $20.00(Mail-In Rebate) = $179.99

Linksys Instant Wireless Network PC Card WPC11
$149.99 - $60.00(Instant Rebate) - $10.00(Mail-In Rebate) = $79.99

The Mail-In Rebates are from Linksys and will take 4 - 8 weeks to get. The Instant rebates are taken off right away and not considered in sales tax. You will pay $289.98 + tax, get $30 in rebates for a final cost of $259.98 + tax.

This very good deal is from 04/22/01 - 04/28/01. If your local Best Buy is out of stock you can pricematch with CompUSA or another chain. You will miss out on the rebates as they will only match the instant rebates.

Good luck.

They also have the WDT11 wireless PCI adapter for the WPC11 card for use in your PC.
$49.99 - $20.00(Rebate not specified) = $29.99

I am also thinking about going wireless and this sounds like a good deal. My epod will be my second computer on my future LAN so I have yet to buy a router. If anyone has not bought their router yet you may want to consider the the upgrade from the WAP11 to the BEFW11S4.

The BEFW11S4 is not available at bestbuy.com but it is at Amazon.com for $259.94 (no rebate??). For specs on the WAP11 and the BEFW11S4, visit the Linysys site.

If you need a router/switch, the BEFW11S4 is the way to go - or, check out the smc product. it's technically superior.

Profile
I ended up getting the BEFW11S4. I have it installed at the far end of my house and I end up losing connection at the other end of my house.

One option to fix this would be to centrally locate the unit but then I would have to run 2 wires back to the end if the house. One for the WAN and one for the server.

I thought I had read on this board {can't find it now} that because the two antennas on the BEFW11S4 {or WAP11 for that matter} are removable that they could be extended.

How far can they be extended? 100 ft? If I place an antennae at either end of the house will that increase my coverage or create other problems?

The connectors are a funky looking cable type of connector. Instead of a standard cable {female outer / male inner}, this would require a female outer / female inner to connect to the uint. Where is a good source to buy that type of cable and connector?
