PalmGB
Games on your epod

New MessagePalmGB (modified 0 times) Billings
Software Update:

I got PALMGB to run smoothly on the epods -- they have a trial version limited to 2 minutes of play on the unregistered version. Gameboy Roms are pretty plentiful over the net. Using an external keyboard make controls a lot more friendly -- I bet a USB gamepad would work even better if it is compatible.

Also, PocketDos (http://www.pocketdos.com/) has a demo version of their Windows CE MSDOS emulator, unfortunately the demo version for Windows CE for H/PC 2.12 or higher is by request only. I did request it, so we'll see if it works, but if it does that means DOS apps would run!

Have you had success with all the controls? I can use the arrow keys on the keyboard map but nothing else - unable to start a game. I've tried mapping the other buttons in preferences to other keys but nothing seems to work. All mapping shows up as "none" even after I assign a button.

Thanks - Joe

Using an external USB keyboard I could remap keys to the fire buttons -- no such luck with the onscreen keyboard. As you said just the arrow keys seem to work correctly. It always shows "None" for assignments, even though they are in fact assigned in both cases.

I tried using an external USB Microsoft Gamepad but no luck -- I think the only external portable input device that would work would be like a numeric keypad.

Is there any way you could map some keys using your USB keyboard and then export the part of the registry where the seetings were saved so that people without USB keyboards (me) could use the onscreen virtual keyboard? Or would this not solve the problem?

Is there a FREE GB emulator out there for CE?

map the start and select buttons to unused letters like , and .
to use them you have to press alt then the letter
like alt-, and alt-. for start select

worked for me, found it by accident.

drof - kudos to you and your "accident". I was about to write off PalmGB as a viable emulator, since I wasn't too keen on wandering around with a USB keyboard hooked up to my ePods. Thanks.

For anyone who cares, I got Pong to work with the ePods keyboard. Use the alt trick as described above and use your ePods keyboard arrow keys (I also mapped the arrow keys as the joystick arrows)
It's hard to keep up with Mr. Game Boy, but it works fine.

I think I'm getting a 'white screen of death' from messing around with my ePods for way too long.
Has this happened to anybody?

Anyone know how to get the a & b buttons to work without having to hit alt+entry? Tetris seems to run fine speed wise (with the small window), but it's tough to play when you have to hit two buttons to flip a piece... almost as hard as playing doom only hitting one button at a time :) - I think I need to find a small usb keypad or something... maybe get a usb keyboard on the cheap and hack it down into the frame of a nintendo controller or something. That would be quite excellent (I'm thinking a 6-button sega controller.)

The only other 'game' that I have got to respond to the arrow keys is Nintendo XXX Slde Show. It is hilarious. There are 6 or 8 old pictures of naked girls from the 70's or 90's. It will flip through each picture with the arrow keys, but do not expect to get off.

Wow, sounds like you've put your epod to good use --- not.

I'd watch out for posting serials here. That would probably constitute trading copywrited software or whatever the forums rules say. It's not like it's *that* hard to find if you are looking for it anyway.

Is that what that was? Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. Please forgive me.

I don't actually have a problem with it. To each his own I guess. Just saying that you should be careful what you post lest you draw the wrath of an administrator. I kind of like not having to log-in to post here and wouldn't be too pleased if they started required registration for this forum ala the I-Opener forum due to problems with users.
