Best NULL modem cable to use
NULL modem cable

Hi all - I never was able to get a serial connection between the epods and my computer to work via the serial ports. I had to use IR over a laptop to move all the files, and unfortunately some programs wont install over IR claiming an error of not support transfer method.

I was using a 9 to 25 pin serial cable with a 25 pin null modem to another 25 pin to 9 cable for my serial communications. This never did work and epods or PC never saw the other side. I think it has something to do with the pin difference between the null modem and the 9 pin connector.

What is and where can I find a simple usable working null modem serial cable for use with Active Sync?

Thanks

Most B&Ms will carry them for around 20 bucks. Try Cables N Mor.com.

You can get one for $5 + shipping.

Looking at your old posts re: activesync, if the DB9 cable doesn't work, I would definitely take another look at your connection settings. Try searching the BBS on "activesync"; I recall several other folks having issues as well. In my experience, the interface can be kind of finicky and it takes some experimenting with port settings on both sides to establish a reliable connection.

Good luck.

I had to short some pins together on my cable.
On the 9 pin, if the 5 pins are on top and the 4 pins on bottom, I shorted the right two pins together with a small piece of wire.

The line is the short. Mine is a laplink cable which is apparently not truly a Null Modem cable.

I did this on both ends of my cable, both 9-pin.

Thanks for the info. I did spend hours trying different com settings at each end with no luck. I suspect my null modem and or cables are just not cutting it. The null modem is actually one I bought 8 years ago so I could do some PC to PC communications across my dorm room.

I think I'll just drop the $$ and buy one of the suggested cables. Thanks. ^_^

I know the cables from Cables N Mor .com work because I emailed them and got the pinout connections they use. the one from Rat Shack works but I needed a gender changer.
