Epods' battery drained, and now my screen is stark white
Please help me revive my Epods One.

New MessageEpods' battery drained, and now my screen is stark white (modified 0 times) mlabere

I didn't use my Epods One - hacked with v2.04 - for over a month, and the battery completely drained. So, yesterday I recharged the battery, and to my surprise only the start menu, taskbar, and system tray are visible, the rest of the screen is a pure white - no wallpaper or icons.

I have already tried a hard and soft reset, but that hasn't worked. So what do I have to do in getting my Epods One back to normal?

Thanks for any help,
mlabere

Sorry, nevermind. I fixed it, and everything is back to normal now. My only excuse is being out of the loop too long.

Now I'm curious. What was the problem and how
was it solved?

Probably had to re-import registry and reboot.

Yep, I have the same problem! Everything looks fine apart from lack of icons & wallpaper. Anyone got any ideas? I can re-import the registry but as I bought a unit with CE2.12 aready on it I'm unsure which reg version to use )-:

ok, if you have 2.01 or whatever hack and have the same white screen, follow the directions i posted earlier in this thread

I have the same problem after the battary drained. The hard-reset gave me a message - 'Could not copy files from \ePods System\Extras' and on OK'ing the hack message, the reboot shows the same white screen.

If I run the Filestore program, it cannot find any directories.

Any ideas?

if you can get the start button up, click on start->run and type in there "cmd" let me know if that helps or works

yeah i guess i should have said something after that post like this. if you get the command prompt type dir and see if you are in a subdirectory, if you are, try going up to the highest lvl by doing "cd \" and then type dir, if you see any files then filestore might be messed up. this may not help but it might be a start. let me know what you figure out.

Chewyboy,

Thanks for the tip - I did get CMD working, looks like FILESTORE is corrupted (and I lost the ePods System directory). I copied the directory from a memory card and now everything is working again (apart from FILESTORE). copying another copy of FILESTORE doesn't fix it so I suspect that I have a corruption in another file somewhere else. Nonetheless, Terminal Services works now - which is all I use the ePod for anyhow. So thanks again for the tip.

if you want me to pop off an e-mail with a filestore from my epods just let me know and put an e-mail addy that you want me to pop it off to. that might be useful for future use.

Thanks, but the problem isn't with the FILESTORE exe as I have a backup of this, and the same problems occur. I think it must be a dll of some kind that is corrupt (or even the file system).

Thanks anyway

Nigels: Please describe exactly "how" filestore is not working for you. I've seen a few different ways that it doesn't work. I can't recall the details of the various fixes. One of my ePods is also having a problem with filestore. If it is the same problem that you are having I'll move it up on my TO-FIX list. I've had the problem before and I don't think that it was that hard to fix. The biggest problem for me is getting something to the top of the list so I can work on it <g> (i.e. I have too many irons in the fire).

Glad to describe the symptoms.

Starting FILESTORE shows the control panel and filestore icons corrupted. They look like a black box with white in them but with some small black lines in them. On clicking Filestore, a dialog box comes up saying that it cannot find the application.

Nigels: One of my ePods has the exact same problem. I've fixed this before. I don't remember what I did to fix it but I'm pretty sure that I can repeat my past success. I'll try to work on it this weekend.

ok, if you guys wanna try, not sure that this will work with ce, but go into your windows directory (we can do this one dir at a time, and make this thread huge) and do a dir windows > winlog.txt and if it works and if it gives the size of the files, since mine is working, if you have similar files that are different sizes, that might give us a starting place of what might be corrupt on yours. anyway if you wanna try it i'm game

Nigels: I was able to get Filestor working properly by copying a few of the files from the original ePods distribution. There are three files in the original ifc directory, ifccfol.dll, ifcffol.dll & ifcvfol.dll. After I copied these files into the windows directory everything started to work. I'm not sure which one was the "magic file". I'm just happy that it works. I would be interested in the results if you want to copy them over one at a time & test after each file.

If you didn't make a backup before you upgraded, there may still be a copy of the original files on Randy's website. Otherwise, send me an email and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks, those dlls fixed it. The ifccfol.dll made the control panel icon appear and open the control panel items. This file was missing in my Windows directory.

The ifcffol.dll did the same to the Filestore icon and made the app work. The dll was in my windows directory, but with a 0 byte size.

I replaced the ifcvfol.dll but it didn't seem to add anything.

Anyhow, all is now back to normal - thanks for the help.
