Questions, questions, questions....
Help out this poor fool with his ePods

A couple of stupid questions. I have been looking to use desktop icons instead of the "start" menu on my Wince2.12 hacked ePod anyone got a basic list of where shortcuts should go, you know like desktop, start menu etc? Secondly I have almost got a 3C589 working...I think... but it prompts me for the WinCe CD, anyone know where I can buy a copy of CE? And last of all has anyone come up with a cool way of mounting ePods on the wall? Sorry for all the questions I have been devoting most of my time to my Audrey project of late...

Cheers,
Scozza,

I'm sorry I can't help, but I am interested with any solutions - I've tried a few times to get a 3c589 working to no avail...

ok, i'm gonna be no help on the 3c589 question but i can answer your desktop question pretty easily. first go to the app you want to put on your desktop, and go to edit->copy after that go to the windows->desktop directory and hit edit->paste shortcut i hope this is what you were looking for if not ask again in more detail. good luck.

Must be something screwy with my ePods. I have been psting shortcuts into the desktop folder to no avail, hence this post. I open filestor, choose the "File Store" folder & put shotcuts in \windows\desktop folder...... still no desktop. Is there something obvious I'm missing here? I'm also wondering what version of CE everyone is using, have you tried ver 3?

Cheers,

Scozza.

I've always just pasted the shortcuts directly onto the desktop instead of in Windows\Desktop and it's worked fine.

(To do that, select the thing you want to make a shortcut to, Edit | Copy, then click the Desktop icon next to the clock, then use TapRight (you do have TapRight installed, right?) to right-click on the desktop and choose Paste Shortcut.)

TapRight lets you right-click, which is the easiest way to select "Paste" or "Paste Shortcut" on the desktop (not the only way, though). It's indispensible. To use it, you just click the TapRight icon (in the system tray), then tap wherever to right-click there.

Regarding your question on the 3COM 3C589, I've tried at least three different variants of the card with no success. Basically, each card would get recognized by the ePods as a new device, I'd load the drivers (downloaded from 3COM's site, I think) and then nothing. No link light, no IP address. I recall some earlier threads that mentioned similar experience. For cards that do work in the ePods, check the "Network" page on http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/ .

ok, since i dont have this card, this is purely a "guess" of an idea that might get this card to work since it worked with other cards. if you have one of these cards and dont mind trying something try this.

delete any 3com entries from the registry
install supplied drivers
insert card into epods
when it asks for a driver, give the name of the 3com dll driver file for that card

this worked on the smc cards and might work on the 3com's too. if it does could you please post here so others have results. thanks

I did that procedure chewyboy and no go.

I can get a link light but no traffic on the card. I picked up a replacement NE2000 driver that allows many more cards to work, but I don't recall the name of it. Check Randy's site, geocities,com/epodsfiles, I sent him the info a while back.
