I've been on this board since the ePods was first hacked and was lucky enough to get one of the first set - thanks for everyone's help with the hack. I'm now running XP Professional and finally have my 802.11b card working perfectly. Although I review this board almost daily (multiple times a day a year ago) I have not found a unifying thread on runnning Remote Desktop in WinXP. I understand the 256 color limitation and that isn't a problem - can any gurus out there give me a hand? Thanks in advance.
To answer my own question and raise a new one, I guess I'm looking for hpcrdp.exe - I can't find it on the ms servers. Any other suggestions for improving the remote experience?
Well I will reply to my own post one last time - an XP(RC2) rebuild and a reimport of the 2.04 hacked reg was all it too to get my cheap Dell 4800 802.11b card working. Terminal Services was just as easy - it really makes the ePods functional. I could even watch the VGA overlay from the PVR (Tivo-like) card on my PC. Sure - no audio and no 16 bit color, but still a massive improvement over a non-wirelessly networked ePod. The developer of Nydiot says that he may have a version of his resolution expanding utility available for the ePods soon (http://www.nyditot.com). In a perfect work, that would allow an 800x600 desktop to appear on the ePods.
Chicago773,
I'm using the same network cards, and also haven't had a problem.
Viewing the TV remotely is the one thing I haven't been able to accomplish
with Citrix 1.8 on Win2K.
I've got a Askey Magic TView card, and it tells me overlay isn't supported under Citrix.
I haven't gotten PowerVCR from Cyberlink to work yet, so I can't tell if it is an application problem or not.
I'm using the IOMagic PVR Card ($30 at CompUSA) and the CyberLink Software that came with it. If Citrix is signifficantly faster (even at 16-bit color) and the sound can be mapped through - it would actually be a fully-functional portable TV. I'm happy with just having everything working right now but would really be interested in seeing a 16-bit color CE Client for Terminal Services.
