Using the Computer Interface from an X10 firecracker on the ePods

Does anyone know how to write a VB script for the ePods to access a device on teh RS232 serial port? The device i am thinking of is the Computer interface (CM11A) from the X10 firecracker home automation package, which sends an RF signal to a recieving unit which plugs into your outlet. If one could control the Computer interface from the ePods, then you would have a more wireless, home automation solution.

Any ideas appreciated.

Search the net for 'pocket scheme'. This is a programming language which I believe works on epods. I think that firecracker software exists for it already. Also, search this bbs for firecracker..

You can also try homeseer.com for an even more complete solution. Use your main computer for the cm11a and you can control everything via web page with epod or someone else's computer.

A note: the CM11A is not the Firecracker. I suspect the Firecracker is what you're actually thinking of -- a CM11A is a bit bulky to hang off the end of an ePods, and not very portable since it plugs into the wall. The Firecracker is a CM17A, though no one calls it that.

I second the recommendation to put the smarts on a server running HomeSeer and just use the webpad a s a client to it. But it has to be admitted, a $5 Firecracker is a much cheaper way of getting wireless control than putting in an entire wireless network, a server, and HomeSeer. PocketScheme is probably the way to go with using a Firecracker.
