Hi, I just purchased a new Epod that had already been hacked. I have several questions - any help would be GREATLY appreaciated!!

1. how do I tell if the seller installed one of the Windows CE shells (I sent an email to the seller as well)?

2. I installed Primer3.1 via activesync but keep getting an error message (unable to load shell: error 126) - any idea what this means?

3. How do I uninstall software?

4. This might seem silly but when I select the software version to download which do I choose: for example, HPC, Power PC not Palm size etc, etc.?

5. Is Primer the only PDF viewer?

THANKS SO MUCH!!! Any other thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Joe

More information:

I received an email from the seller that said he had installed the initial hack (1-10) from the first page of this website. He said he had not installed one of the CE Shell hacks discussed on this site.

What my Epod currently looks like:

1. When I turn on the unit I get the CE start menu and four icons on the desktop (My epods, recycle bin, my documents and Microsoft Pocket Word). The start menu works and everything looks fine. When I run the FileStore program I see the following directories: My Documents, Network, Program Files, Recycled, Storage Card, Temp, Win_CeFiles and Windows (No epods system folder).

This is what I have done so far:

2. Downloaded the files necessary to install the CE Shell easy hack. Backed up the registry and then tried to copy the unzipped files (from my CF storage card) into the Windows directory. However, when I paste the files into the Windows directory I received the following error: "paste operation failed. You are either trying to overwrite existing readonly file(s), or to paste executable or resource files from ROM." ANY IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS?

3. I then downloaded and copied the files from the Software section of this site --> "If you find that certain software doesn't run but should, you may need one of these DLL files in your \windows subdirectory. Try one or more, but watch your storage and memory contraints: MFCCE20.DLL, MFCCE211.DLL, OLECE20.DLL, or OLECE211.DLL."

4. Installing the files from number 3 above did not help with installing the CE Shell or getting Primer3.1 to work.

5. Software questions:
a. How do I remove software?
b. Does CE (is it supposed to)come with any calendar, tasks or other PIM software??

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!! Also, If someone would like to email me that would be great (bridgeman@mac.com)! ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Thanks, joe
