Remapping Buttons & Start Page...

New MessageRemapping Buttons & Start Page... (modified 0 times) Rich
Does anyone know how to re-assign the 4 buttons to open other programs? Also, can the default epods "Today" page be changed to another startup page? Thanks...

Better search the BBS, this has all been covered before. The settings are in the reg and as to what I have seen you can only replace two buttons to call other apps seeing that one of the four is the power button and the other the soft keyboard :)

I'm sorry, I already searched the BBS but only found a thread with a reply saying "We are working on it." I will search again though...please let me know the name of the thread if you found it. Also I was wondering how to change the default Epods "Today" start page to another startup page??

There seems to be a few threads that are missing. I can't find anything talking about this. There seems to be other treads that are missing. I've seen Saridnour say "Well I did the hack!" in his thread "I did it!! Shell, desktop icons, working IE !!" but he doesn't reference what those hacks are, nor can I find any hint of them on this board. Maybe there is another board around?

You can download the modified reg from :

http://www.geocities.com/saridnour/epods-ce_shell_b.zip

Once you install this the Windows CE shell should be apparent.

You need to install the registry editor on your epods, remove all the registry keys already in there and then import this one.

the registry keys already in there and then import this one.

Say what? Go though the whole registry and delete all the keys? This
sounds a bit extreme, unless contains the whole registry perhaps?

Please forgive me if I'm a tad shy about making sweeping changes that
might turn my ePods into a paper weight.

Yes, I understand about the CE shell hack by changing the registry. I am not ready to make my ePods into a paper weight yet either however! All I was wanting to do is to remap the button(s) (the control panel button for instance) and also to change the ePods startup page when you log onto the internet in the browser. I don't want to change the main ePods page...just the startup page that opens up when you open the browser. Sorry for the confusion. If anyone knows how to do these two seemingly simple changes please let me know. Thanks.

I dont want to change the real buttons (like the power and keyboard) i want to change the buttons on the screen (today-lifestlyes-shop-search-mail-calender) can these be made to goto different webpages and stuff, also if it can, is it possible to use a image program and edit the icons to be different, or would that screw it up?

Yes you can...

The following is how I have decided to do it since (it seems)
registry changes to the key/icon definitions are ignored
or over written.

Since I run my own DNS (Domain Name Server) I have my own
mapping for www.epods.com and I point it to a vitual webserver
that then redirects each key/icon to a new destination of
my choosing. For example, I have mapped "mail" to "www.hotmail.com"
and "search" to "www.google.com"...

Have Fun...

I installed Andy's reg file, but all it seemed to do is give me the epods shell and the new control panel.

Am I missing something here?

To sent_wirelessly_from_epods:

If you have a DNS server mapped with modified entries for the default buttons, would it be possible for the rest of us to use your DNS server as well- so that we could all use your remapped buttons?

Ok, I'm confused here. www.epods.com redirects to mykitchen.com? Who the heck is mykitchen? The pages look like epod pages, and the dates are now real again. Is someone playing with my mind? Has epods come back from the dead? Did someone take over their old web address?

You have to blow away all your reg settings first before you merege in the new ones. use the latest Tascal reg edit for compatiability. IT does work! Ask around, but you have to clear all of your settings first and merge in the whole file intact! Not to mention having all the right files in the windows directory (ie being able to launch explorer.exe and iexplore.exe and have them work first!)

Good luck,
Andy
