Out of memory error when sync'ing

New MessageOut of memory error when sync'ing (modified 0 times) trouble

Hi

I am trying to sync my epods (just purchased it) to my PC and keep getting the following error message:

Out of memory

Cannot start communication with the desktop computer. the system may be low on memory or critical resources.

Please quit some programs on your device and reconnect. if the problem persists, restart your device using the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

I have restarted the PC and reset the epods, tried it on 2 XP Pro PC's and a Wind98, IRda and serial, on Active sync 3.1, 3.5 and 3.6.
I got the message before hacking to epodsXP1, and still get it now.
I have the memory slider set to around 4.8Mb free, but it doesn't matter where i set it, i still get the error.

Any help would be great.

Hi guys

I just deleted the partnership and used guest only, and it lets me connect. It comes up with the memory message while its trying to sync, even though I have unticked everything in the sync list.

Hmm, almost sounds like there are extra files in there that are taking up the extra RAM. I believe the ePods1XP instructions talk about how to carefully delete the old files and then copy the new files to your ePod. The ePods Hack Site also details this process pretty well on this page:
http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/software.html#shell200
(read the "INVISIBLE FILE NOTE:" and "FILE DELETION NOTE:" carefully, also re-read the ePods1XP install notes)

After you load up ePods1XP again you shouldn't have these memory errors. If you do, I guess you could have something wrong with the memory on your ePods or something? Please post a note to the list after you've tried a clean install of ePods1XP. Good Luck!

The "out of memory" error during Active Sync is a long known problem with the ePods. It first surfaced it's ugly head very early in the ePods craze. AFAIK, it is not related in any way to the ePods' memory. It is caused by the CE 2.11 build not supporting partnerships. The solution to the problem (not creating a partnership) was documented a long time ago and now (re)discovered by trouble.

FWIW, partnerships don't work the eZex CE 3.0 build either. At least in the CE 3.0 build the error message is a bit more helpful <g>.

PTCheezer I followed the instructions, including the attrib -r -s -h * and deleted all the files before I upgraded to epodsXP. But also this was a problem even before i upgraded to epodsXP, when I purchased the ePods 2 weeks ago, it had the 2.04 hack (i think) and it had the problem then. Another intresting point is the old owner had it sync'ing with Win98 with out any problems. I might try and build a Win98 drive and see how it goes.

Maybe the old owner meant he was just copying files using ActiveSync (not really synchronizing).
From what Glitch said it doesn't sound like there's a way around the issue. Good luck trying Win98 though -let us know if it works and what version of ActiveSync you used.

I had this problem last night as I FINALLY got an ePod.

Here's what I have, and what I did. Hope it helps ppl.

Got:
PC - XP SP1, ActiveSync 3.7.1, Null Modem (Serial) Cable
ePod - ePod1XP Hack

"Out of Memory" msg. when trying to install / transfer files to ePod1XP Hack

Did:

-Make more memory, (slide bar more to the left)
-Soft-reboot
-Downgraded sync speed on ePod to 19200

Then connected cable, and ran PC-Link w/ the 19200 connection. Don't create a partnership, select guest.

Then I was money.

This is surly old, old news, but since it took me 2+ hours to get to this point, I hope it saves someone in the future.
