Dlink DWL650 won't work
can't get wireless card to work

First off I am a complete newbie and HAVE read everything I can find on the Epod and hooking it up wirelessly but, sadly, being a newbie I am completely lost.
I have a Dlink DWL650 Vp1 card (new) and downloaded the generic Intersill driver set (Prism2ForWinCE2dll) via CF card. It appears as Prism2For... in a folder labeled EXE in my Windows directory. This info is from Hacking Your Epod site.
I tried clicking on the EXE folder and it says it says "Prism2ForWinCE2d11 is not a valid Windows CE application".
Anyway, I turn the Epod on, insert the card, the ACT green light lights briefly then goes out.(also get the Not Enough Battery message if not on AC). The dialog box comes up asking to enter the name of the driver for this PC card. Default it says the driver name is "Network card in Socket 2". Deleting that, I entered Prism2ForWinCE2dll as the name, hit okay and nothing. I tried many variations on the name, added Windows\ in front of it and everything. Still no lights lit. Hit reset,etc

So if anyone can muster the effort to help yet another newbie I would appreciate it immensely. Hopefully, if I can get the card installed I can then figure out what to do next to connect it to my router.

Thanks any and all

Hi totco,

I posted these direction on the epod Yahoo grop site. I was able to get a Netgear 802.11b MA401 V2.5 card running. The Netgear card uses the Prism2 chip set so if the Dlink DWL650 Vp1 card also uses the Prism2 chip set these direction s may also work for you or after reading them you figure out how to get the Prism2ForWinCE2dll to work.

1> Go to this site to get SP15585.exe
http://www5.compaq.com/support/files/15501.html

2> You will run this exectable on your PC and it will unpack a SETUP211.EXE on your PC.

3> Startup Active Sync and run SETUP211.EXE on the PC and it will install some Compaq drivers onto the epod

4> Using Regedit on the epod, I went to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/PCMCIA/Compaq-WL100_11Mbps_Wireless_PC_Card-8147

At this location I noticed that:
Miniport = WL100
Prefix = NDS
Dll = NDIS.Dll

5> On my PC, I went into RegEdit and did a search for Netgear and found an entry that referred to the card as:
PCMCIA\NETGEAR_MA401RA_WIRELESS_PC-CARD-5CA0\1

6> Back to the epod, I went ahead and truncated the "\1" and created a new key called:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/PCMCIA/NETGEAR_MA401RA_WIRELESS_PC-CARD-5CA0

7> I then added the strings to the key:
Miniport = WL100
Prefix = NDS
Dll = NDIS.Dll

8> I turned off the epod, plugged in the Netgear MA401 and turned it on.

9> Up came the network config box and it identified the card as a Compaq WL100 11Mps. I chose DHCP and continued on and never got a
connection.

10> I attepted a soft reset and no connection.

11> I then went into Control Panel/Network and selected the Compaq WL100, turned off DHCP and put in a static IP Address, SubNet Mask and Default Gateway and then my DNS servers.

12> Clicked Ok and thought that I really should just go to sleep about now. Did a soft reset for good measure and BANG....I had the internet...OWOWOWOWOWOWOW

Hope this helps. Let me know if you encounter any probblems I would be glad to help out.
