Newbie can't get past calibration screen...

I just purchased a new, unopened epods and when I first boot it up, I am presented with the stylus calibration screen. My problem is that I never seem to get past this! I keep touching the screen in the crosshairs and it continues to move around the screen, but I have yet to get to a logon screen so I can start hacking this. I have tried it with the modem in and out of the epods, I've done a hard reset, and still nothing. If I go through the cycle once and then turn the unit off and back on, I have a blank white screen with a mouse cursor on it - the cursor moves but nothing else happens. Also, if I go through the calibration cycle once, and turn the unit off with the modem in it, I will get the message about using the device on batteries with the PCMCIA card in it, but when I click either YES or NO, nothing happens - the box just stays there on the screen. One last thing I have noticed - when I press they stylus on the screen at the crosshairs, sometimes the unit will make a clicking noise and then move to the next position and sometimes it doesn't make any sound at all. Any ideas? Am I just being impatient and it takes a while to get through the calibration? How many cycles around the screen does it normally take? Can I connect to the device via activesync (3.7 running on win2k3 server) without first calibrating it? I've tried and it doesn't detect the epods. What are the COm settings by default that I need to configure? I would appreciate any advice!

OK, I got it fixed. For some reason when this thing was shipped from the factory, the screen was not properly seated and wasn't registering the calibration correctly. I opened the epods up, reseated the scren and checked all the conenctions . Viola! It is now working perfectly!
