Wireless NIC Problem
Help! dwl-650 error

New MessageWireless NIC Problem (modified 0 times) alan9446
Profile
Have Epods with XP1 Hack. Also have D-Link dwl-650 wireless nic.

Cannot get the epod to recognize the card. Have Intersil Prism Drivers and Compaq WL100 Drivers. Will not work with either. Get message.. Unable to connect to the wireless Netcard. Is it inserted? Error = 9.1814.

I have tried everything I could find on this message board. Nothing works.

Maybe a registry problem??

Does anyone out there know what I need to do next? I'm almost ready to use this thing for target practice.
Any help with this problem will be much appreciated.

Which model of the 650 series do you have?

I have the dwl-650 V.P1. If I'm not mistaken, it has the Prisim2 chip. Should work, have read that others have. Their instructions didn't work for me.

I put together something you can try if you want to. I uploaded a file named dwl650.zip here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/epods/files/Temporary%20Uploads/

If you're not a member you'll have to join. There's instructions in the zip file.

wlu.exe - put wherever you want
prismnds.dll - put in \ifc folder and in \windows folder
prismioc.dll - put in \ifc folder and in \windows folder
Wlu.cpl - put in \ifc folder and in \windows

Import dwl650reg.txt into your registry then soft reset. (I forgot the soft reset in the instructions)

It installs prism drivers for other cards as well. I hope it works for you - let me know.

Here's the contents of the dwl650reg.txt file:

I took a look at it. wlu.exe won't work it's ce 3.0 not 2.12, sorry. I just now replaced it, if you want to try again.

Did you import the registry file?

Import dwl650reg.txt into your registry then soft reset. (I forgot the soft reset in the instructions)

When you insert the card is it recognized? Can you tell from the lights?

I uploaded Air DCF-660W.ePods.zip to temporary uploads on the Yahoo Group for you to try. It’s a modified cab install. Download it, unzip and copy the cab file over to your epod. Double tap the cab to install.

It puts Wlu.cpl, PRISMNDS.dll and prismioc.dll in \Windows. Make sure that you copy all three files to your IFC folder they’ll be lost after a reset if you don’t. Soft reset and then insert your card. You should be able to configure it through your control panel.

Let me know if it works.

marko,

Thanks. This is just swell! Thanks for replying.

Can't wait to get home and try. The more I thought about it today, the less it makes good sense to me to use the CF NIC. It might be better to keep CF for apps and maps.

I'll test it out sometime tonight, or tomrrow and report back.

I also have a USB 1.1 "key / thumb" drive. I tried looking around to get this working. Do you have any experiance with them? I saw either here or on the Yahoo! Groups that there were some drivers floating out there.

I don't have any experience with USB 1.1 "key / thumb" drives. I think there is a driver in the files at the Yahoo Group.

I use a CF wifi card in the pcmcia slot with a pcmcia to cf adapter. It works great for me. I use the same wifi card (without the adapter) in a pocket pc.

I did as you instructed and it seems to recognize the CF nic. The link light is blinking away. I went into the control panel and specified correct IP address for my network. Is it wrong to expect to see more then just the D-Link device under Network?

IP Address comes up w/o and my wireless router doesn't see it.

The blinking light is probably good. Did you also specify your default gateway and DNS server(s)? Can you use dhcp instead?
What does w/o mean?
Which install did you use?
Can you use wlu.cpl in control panel to configure ssid, wep etc. on the card? If not, does wlu.exe allow you to do it?
Two other non-existent cards show up for me under network. That shouldn’t be a problem.

jsmmd - is your wifi card working now? If so, which install package did you use?

No, it's not. wlu.exe won't run. There is nothing new in the control panel.

I was able to get the Linksys WPC11 working following these directions, so I know the manual network config I am trying to use is good. No DHCP

I'm still working on getting the D-Link DCF-660W working.

I can get the DCF-660W working via the Compaq WL100 method. I just changed the miniport in the registry to "WL100" from "PRISMNDS".

I changed it back to PRISMNDS and tried to get it to work, but can't. Oh well, lesson learned. The Compaq drivers are very good.

marko, thank you for your help. If you get a different version of wlu.exe, I'll gladly try again.

That's great that you got it working.

I have the same problem with my Netgear card. I have to use the WL100 drivers. (I was just going to suggest that to you )

I'll remove the non-working drivers from the Yahoo Group. If I find a compatible wlu.exe I'll let you know.

Thanks for all of you assistance.

Now I'm going to try to get that usb drive to work and I'm money. (that and a battery and a case) Got any leads on either? I saw in old threads you can order new cells from a website that is still up. I was looking for a more canned soluntion.

thnx again.

Did you try the usb pen drive files - usbmsc.zip - from the Yahoo Group?

Battery shops will build you a battery. They'll probably have to use the molex connector from your existing battery pack.

Do you know of a battery shop that might be able to? I also posted some details from digikey in the [ur=http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=EpodsOne&Post=604&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0]Help! Battery problem thread.

I'm going to try those drivers tonight.

Marko,

I am trying to get the DWL-650 to work with my epod. Could you provide me with the files that you had zipped up in dwl650.zip. I will need any instructions that anyone could provide to get this working.

Thanks

I don't have that file anymore. I don't think it ever worked. Have you tried the prism drivers from Brian's site?

I have tried to follow the instructions on this site but some of the files are not there any longer so I'm not sure what to do.
