Serial port issues w/BeePod?
Can't seem to get any serial devices to be recognized with BeePod

This is a duplicate post of my Yahoo Groups post....don't mean to be redundant but maybe not all of us are on both boards...

Have been 'playing' with my ePods on and off for about 3 weeks now. I installed the BeePod hack without any difficulties, but can't seem to get any serial devices to work. I can't get activesync to work with my null modem cable nor can I get my cell phone(s) to be recognized with my data cable(s).

Would like to get activesync working because, apparently, many applications must be installed in this manner...as opposed to just copying cab files to my 512MB CF card.

Anxiously awaiting the delivery of a Linksys WPC11 V3 PC Card so I can go wireless on my LAN...and maybe even Starbucks!! In the meantime, I'd like to be able to connect either my Samsung SCH-3500 or Samsung i500 to the serial port (Hayes Compatible on COM1:) and give IE and Terminal Services a test drive. My Samsung 3500 works just fine on my old laptop's serial port configured as 'standard 14400 modem' under Windows98....trying to activesync on this and a Windows XP SP2 box.

I'm technical and have tried many things including importing the BeePod registry 6-12 times. I'm considering deleting the BeePod hack and installing the ePods1XP 2.04??!!

I have read virtually every post and article on this board, Yahoo Groups, http://members.netjunkies.net/epods/, and http://epods1xp.no-ip.com/.

Any advice from all the 'resurected' ePods hackers is appreciated.

I'm using BeePod. I will test Activesync when I get home and post the settings I use.

Activesync 3.7.1 works fine with my ePod (running BeePod).

On the epod, under Control Panel, Communications, PC Connection I use '57000 serial'.

Under Connection Settings in Activesync on my PC it is using Com 1. I unchecked USB and Network because I don't use them. Com 1 under Device Manager on my PC is actually set to 9600 bps.

Activesync 4.0 (developer preview) does not work with an ePod and it is very difficult to rollback to previous versions.

Did you ever have your epod connected with any hack? If not, are you sure it is a null modem cable?

Mark,

Don't want to duplicate the post on Yahoo Groups. Thanx for the response. I can't definitively say that my serial cable(s) are null cables. I've tried both a "Laplink" cable, which is supposed to be null...and a regular (not modem) serial cable with and without a 9 pin "null" adapter. I suppose I can verify and test the pinouts of a true null cable, but was anticipating a plug and play with one of my combinations.

I have not been able to connect my ePods with any hack...nor my Samsung data cable which works fine on my XP and Win98 machines.

I'll keep trying...

You probably already know this but I should have mentioned that you have to initiate the connection from your ePod by running PC Link.

Yep...PC Link. Think I'll order a cheap null modem cable on eBay after checking these pinouts on the one's I already have:

Null Modem Pin Connetion:
25 Pin 9 Pin 9 Pin 25 Pin
FG (Frame Ground) 1 - X - 1 FG
TD (Transmit Data) 2 3 - 2 3 RD
RD (Receive Data) 3 2 - 3 2 TD
RTS (Request To Send) 4 7 - 8 5 CTS
CTS (Clear To Send) 5 8 - 7 4 RTS
SG (Signal Ground) 7 5 - 5 7 SG
DSR (Data Set Ready) 6 6 - 4 20 DTR
DTR (Data Terminal Ready) 20 4 - 6 6 DSR
