Contextual menus and other mouse shortcuts: a quick tip for newbies like me ;-)

New MessageContextual menus and other mouse shortcuts: a quick tip for newbies like me ;-) (modified 0 times) crazyRay
Here is a quick tip for newbies (myself included):

Once you have the full blown CE shell in place, you can pop up contextual menus by hitting ALT (on either the soft keybd or an external USB keyboard) and clicking with the pen. This is the quickest way to empty the recycle bin or to create a shortcut to a program or file. It's the equivalent to "right-click" in the windows world. (an alternative to this is to hit Alt-Control, in that order.)

Also- try control-click (to select one at a time in a list) and shift-click (select en masse a group). You can also pop up a contextual menu at any time by hitting alt, then ctrl (it does not work if you do it the other way around).

Other shortcuts:

start menu----> control- escape
Exit program, back to filestor.exe----> Alt-Escape
File menu: Alt-F
Edit Menu: Alt-e
View Menu: Alt V
Favorites: Alt A
Close window: Control-W
Cut, Copy, Paste: Control-X, Control-C, Control-V (of course)
Go back a window- delete key

In other words, most of the shortcuts you may or may remember for windows 9x will work with the epods under WinCE 2.12

Got another one:

Alt-Tab to bring up the task manager. Handy when you have to close a program that's not responding.

There is a nifty little program that everyone would download - RightClick. It sits in your taskbar, and you tap it to enable a 'right click' - it's much easier than fumbling with the keyboard. It's downloadable from the software page.

Which software page is that on? I checked http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/software.html and http://www.geocities.com/epodssoftware/ but no luck there. (Also noticed that the link on the former page to SpreadCE is out.)

Sorry, got the software name wrong. But a simple search of the archives....

Don't forget, you can assign TapRight to one of your hardware buttons on the Epods. I mapped it to the "IE" button, and can use it from within Terminal Services without messing with the taskbar.
