Does the Webgear AviatorPro work with epods?

New MessageDoes the Webgear AviatorPro work with epods? (modified 0 times) drof
I just ordered an ePods from fingerhut and have a pair of Webgear AviatorPros that I'd like to try. They're supposed to be same as Raylink wireless cards. Has anyone tried either of these two cards?

I could never get them working on regular CE devices, let alone the epods.

I have Aviator2.4 and Aviator2.4 PRO cards. The epods winds up asking for a driver, so
there isn't "built-in" support for the Aviator2.4 card.

I haven't found any CE drivers for the Aviator or Raylink. I suspect we are out of luck
with these cards on an epods.

BTW, for those of you looking to use these cards under Win2K. Be advised that you can't
run these cards on a number of notebooks that use a certain TI chip. It's documented, but
a co-worker wanted to use Aviators until he discovered that they wouldn't work with both
his Dell 7000 and Compaq Presario notebooks. Kinda brought the whole project a screeching
halt!

I emailed Raylink and they have CE drivers for the NEC MobilePro 780 but it only works on upgraded Raylink cards, whatever that means. I asked them to email me the drivers. Cross my fingers and hope maybe (big maybe) it might work for the AviatorPro on the epods. hehe now I gotta think about getting a pair of those proxim cards ergh, more $$$

I think "upgraded Raylink cards" might mean that the card's firmware has been upgraded.
This is what Webgear did with the Aviator2.4. A quick reflash and it became the Aviator2.4 PRO.

The reflashing utilities are available in the Win2K drivers package from Webgear. You need
to make a DOS bootable diskette with the flash program and image on the diskette. It's a simple
proceedure, we would just need the correct flash image for the Raylink to work with the CE
drivers.

I'd certainly would like to use my Aviators with the epods.

I visited the Raylink site: http://www.raylink.com/index.html

They do state that they are working on CE drivers for their cards. We might be in luck here.

If you look at their drivers download page, they mention drivers for "build 4" and "build 5".

I was able to obtain the firmware image for Webgear's Aviator2.4. I also downloaded the image
for the Aviator2.4 PRO. The file naming convention for the image is "B4xxx.HEX" for the old
Aviator2.4 and "B5xxx.HEX" for the Aviator2.4 PRO. This certainly suggests that we have Raylink's
"build 5" firmware at our disposal.

So, an Aviator2.4 flashed to B5xxx.HEX or an Aviator2.4 PRO should run with the CE drivers.

Post if you obtain CE drivers...

Where did you find the "B4xxx.HEX" for the old Aviator2.4 ?

I have a bunch of WebGear cards upgraded to Aviator2.4 Pro
and bunch of Buslink cards (one upgraded to be a Webgear Aviator2.4 Pro)
And recently picked up a Raylink Access Point with the version 4 firmware.

I need to downgrade my cards to get it to work with the Access Point,
or upgrade the Access Point to version 5.

Can you point me to where to get "B4xxx.HEX" or possibly email me the file?
Would you happen to have the version 5 firmware for the Access Point?

Just got my ePod today... yipee

I have B4P88.ZIP, which I got thru Webgear's Customer Support. I'd be happy to Email it to you,
it's only 35KB. What's the address?

I had a pair of Aviator2.4 cards already installed and didn't want to upgrade them to PRO, so I
downgraded the PRO cards with the "PBURNxx.EXE" utility using the B4P88.ZIP file (B4P88.HEX).

It's on it's way to you.

I originally had problems flashing using my (very old) TI notebook. A modern desktop with the ISA
adapter had no real troubles with the flashing other than the cardservices did autodetect the
Aviator2.4 card. I just manually specified slot 0 and supplied the B4P88.HEX filename and PBURN916.EXE
did the rest without a hickup!

hopefully I'll get the drivers soon.
I upgraded my Aviator2.4 to Pro because I needed to use em on Win2k (they work, but don't know why they only show up as 1mbps). The readme on the upgrade did mention that the new bios should be flashed ONLY from the desktop ISA cards.

Sorry for bad news...

I got the raylink driver installed. Use Active Sync to to move the
2mbfhss files into /My Documents/Synchronized Files, then execute
2mbfhss -install -file 2mbfhss.upd in the command shell.

The Epods sees the card as a network card, but when I attempt to
tell it to use 2mbfhss.dll for the driver, I get:

"Requesting Command Window Handle"
"An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format."

The driver is registered, it appears as an option in ControlPanel/Network
along with NE2000 and PROXIM drivers.

Oh well, it was worth the attempt....

Has anyone been able to get a Raylink access point to work with a standard NE2000 pcmcia card in the ePods? eBay has Raylink AccessPoints cheaper than the dLink (or any others for that matter). Even assuming you toss the pc card that comes with it (or use it in something other than a ePods). I guess the real question is whether the Raylink Access Point 802.11b compliant?

I don't see how the Raylink Access Point could be 802.11b compliant. 802.11b is sequential
and can go to 10Mbits/sec. The Raylink stuff is frequency hopping and can go 2Mbits/sec. at
best (usually 1Mbits/sec.). I think the Aviators (Raylink) are just dead-end technology.
