Problem with new E-Pod

New MessageProblem with new E-Pod during start-up (modified 0 times) mfkap
I just received my epod that I ordered from Fingerhut a few weeks ago. The first time I turn it on, I get the calibration app for the touch screen. However, I can't get past this screen. I just keep hitting the + and it just keeps moving around the screen, but it doesn't get pass this stage. I tried it for about 10-15 cycles before gave up. If I turn it off and turn it back on, it comes back to a plain white screen with a cursor, but there are no applications here, and bringing up the keyboard doesn't let me do anything. If I hard reset, go back to step one. I have never been able to boot this as I see described elsewhere, and no hacks/etc have been applied. Anyone have a similar experience or possible solution?

mfkap,

You only need to press the + for about a second. Make sure that you don't move the stylus or rest you hand on the screen because this will corrupt the cal process. If the calibration routine doesn't think it is getting good data it restarts itself.

Electronics run on smoke, if you let the smoke out they won't work

I have several handheld devices including a palm and a wince device, and I am familar with the process. Could it be that the actual device is damaged and the stylus location is not being read correctly by the touch screen? If I go back to the white screen after turning off and back on, I get a cursor, and I can move it around the screen with my stylus. However, the cursor appears to be located about 1 inch to the right of where I am actually touching the screen no matter where I touch.

Assuming that the device is damaged in some way, how would I go about getting it fixed/replaced? Is that company that is linked to on the epods home page the company that picks up the repairs on these devices?

Were you able to resolve this problem? I am getting the exact same thing on my new epods...
