New Messageany one with a usb cable for active sync want to try something. (modified 0 times) saridnour

I came across this in another PDA area and it stated how to get active sync to see the usb.
I do not have a cable and didn't dig in to much but it stated to add this line to your regestry. You can copy the text out and save as a .reg if you want or manualy enter the text.

would this be imported to the ePods device, or the host computer running activesync?

ahh good question.. it is intended for the device. It should give you the choice to choose usb as your connection type instead of just IR and desktop@xxxxxxxx

but will it work?????

I will have to try when I get home from work tonight. That is assuming I have the proper cable at least!

Tascal Registry wouldn't let me import it, it gives a printf() error. Astrosoft's registry editor does import it, but it doesn't show up anywhere and USB isn't an option.

It must look just like the above post. The Regedit4 must be on the first line.
I wouldn't run out and buy a cable. I don't know if it will work, I just copied it from someone elses example. I don't need USB and do not have a cable, but thought it was worth mentioning here.

Good luck and if I see more I will let you all know.

Update:

I was able to import it into the registry using tascal. It also does show up as a choice under communications in the control panel. I have not found a usb cable to test it yet.

I think I mentioned this on another thread, but I just don't think this is going to work. USB is a tree structure. One computer is at the top of the tree and hosts the other devices. You can't have 2 hosts on the same USB 'net'. Both the PC and the ePods are going to want to be hosts, so this just isn't going to work with a standard cable. There is a bridge cable (~$50) that will bridge two USB nets, ie, allow you to connect the two and have it work. There is also the (very) slim chance that the registry entry may change the mode of the USB interface on the ePods, so that it is a device, in which case it will have to ID to something that windows has a driver for, since I doubt it'll ID as a HID device.

There is some talk about making a new kind of USB connector (A type B connector with another pin in the center I think) that would make the device auto-swich from host to end point, but that's still a ways off.

After importing the reg' entry, choosing USB connection and hooking the USB cables to a Belkin "USB to USB Networking" device (that's supposed to do exactly what we need to do here and does from my desktop PC to my Iopener) I get an "Unidentified USB Device" box on the Epod. It wants the USB driver name. Now, of course Belkin didn't include a WinCE driver nor is there one on it's web site. After an email to them they state no future CE drivers in the pipeline. So close.... :'(

This is pretty disappointing, we have a $200 piece of beautiful hardware that JUST surfs the net. I thought we'd be able to make something more out of it -- GPS doesn't work, slideshow image utilities don't work to use it like a picture frame, usb connectivity doesn't work, etc. etc.

epoder, are you using the same piece of hardware as the rest of us?
Flip it over and make sure it says EPODSONE on the back.

So far I've heard about people using the EPODSONE for internet, e-mail, gps, maps, mp3, video (although crappy), drawing, remote desktop/admin (Terminal server/Citrix,et al), games, etc. Is there something I'm missing that this thing should be doing.

For my own personal use I've put in a spreadsheet program. I've got it set up so that my wife can write out a grocery list or we can export one from out cookbook software. We then take the epods to the store and as we pick up groceries we write down the price and quantity and with the formulas that I've entered it gives us a rolling total (to keep from going over budget) and gives us a price per unit on the food (helpful to figure out which is the best deal). Additionally I have a slot for storing where the item was located so that when I reimport the list into my cookbook software on my main machine, the next grocery list will have things sorted by aisle for faster shopping. Then while I wait in line I can read one of the many books I downloaded from Project Gutenberg or MobiPocket. It's much more fun going to the store as SUPER GEEEEEK!!!!
My wife and I also make use of the mapping software, let the kids draw on it using the paint application, write notes with it at work, track daily tasks, and yes even use it as a photo frame (via an app or IE scripted web page images pulled from flash or across wireless network), I'm also working on writing some personaljava or waba applications for it.

see this for more ideas :
