| Getting ActiveSync to work via IrDA can be confusing, but once it works, it works well. The first obstacle that must be overcome is getting the IR port connected to ActiveSync. Sometimes the IR port is already talking to another service. Since I'm a mac guy, I fooled around with my PC laptop until I got this part straightened out. Second, the IR connection on the 'pod needs to be set up correctly. 1)In REMNET, create or modify a connection file to use IR at the highest speed. 2)In Control panel/Communications Properties, the PC connection should be set to the IR connection file ypu just set up. 3) Start ActiveSync on the PC and LET IT FAIL, then Click click the cancel button. You want the connection window to remain open. 4) Run REPPLOG on the 'pod to initiate the IR connection. The ActiveSunc window should show the connection beginning, then another window will pop up and ask if you want to start a partnership or logon as a guest. CHOOSE GUEST. That's it. If you run the REMNET connection, the ActiveSync window will say that the connection is starting, but it will never complete. If you try to create a partnership, it will fail and you'll need to quit and re-start ActiveSync to get a guest connection. Good luck! | |
