Does anyone know of a streaming audio player for the pod - This plus my wireless network (and maybe some powered speakers) would make an awesome portable in-house audio system
Better yet, since the sound output is not that great on the pod, run terminal services to your home pc. Hook your home pc up to a good stereo (if its not already) and run mediaplayer7. After cataloging all your files it gives you awesome performance as to selecting files and the home pc decodes and plays the mp3 so the quality is top notch (hopefully)! You get volume control and the works. Not to mention streming audio from the net.
Being wireless you can tote the control (pod) through out the house and if you use a wirelss transmitter for your audio (+/- $100) to transmit from your pc to your stereo you can move it to any stereo within range of your pc. Works really slick, next to hook the video out to the Bigscreen to get my Divx;) mpeg4 videos a remote :) You can actualy watch a video on your pods this way too ..... ok well if you like 1 frame a second for playback... hehe...
Suposedly the next version (whistlers) version of terminal service (remote desktop) is suposed to transmit sounds etc to your client... but no dice yet via pod or pc... but then again its beta :)

saridnour,
This is a great idea - I'll give it a try.
I have audio components all over the house, but the computers are confined to one room (wife won't let me run rampant ). I think what is need is a wireless receiver that can act as an input to my audio components and a transmitter I can attach to one of my PCs. Does anyone have experience with such devices - I know they are out there but I hate buying wireless stuff on a trial-and-error basis...too much of it is junk.
FYI, the wireless transmitters are poping up all over the place.. I even saw them in Sears.
Your going to pay a bit more if you buy at a place like Sears, but then again you can return them if they don't cut it. CompUsa sells them as well. X-10 did sell some that did audio and video and I was told they worked very well. I haven't looked at x-10 stuff for a while, but I would think they should still sell that sort of thing....

I realise that the USB ports are primarily designed for HIDs, but would some of the new USB speakers work and give you better sound from the pod - since they don't use the onboard sound? Has anyone tried this?

The trick would be finding audio drivers for CE that would work with those USB speakers... I'm not sure if the ePods could keep up with them, either- the UI sucks up most of the available processing power as is...

The load might be lower, actually, since it's the speakers that would be doing the DAC.

are you actually doing this, and how is your server setup. Maybe I'm doing something wrong thanks.
