Slow Activesync speeds
Slow Activesync speeds with 2.04 hack

After installing the 2.04 hack, the pc lnk program connects to the host (via serial cable on com1). Speed is VERY slow. Suspect 19.2 or lower. I have tried using REMNET to create a higher speed connection, but whenever I create one and try it, it will not connect at all. I have a 16550 port on the pc set to 115200 speed, n,8,1.

How do I get this to synch faster? Any ideas?

You need to make sure that the speeds are the same on both your pc and your pod. I'm using 56k speeds without a problem (but it's still pretty damn slow).

I used REMNET to create a 115200 connection and it connects and syncs fine to my desktop however I don't really see a significant speed difference. I'm really questioning whether it's going any faster.

I seriously doubt that your getting 115K over a serial line. Only the best, heavily-shielded cables can reach speeds over 56K. You're pob. getting 56K or slightly higher which is why it doesn't seem all that much faster. I know that if I try to set my connection speed up that high on the 'pod it won't even connect.

mc_knight where did you hear that? I have been able to easily get 115.2 or even 230.4 over standard serial cables...just not with the epod...

56 is the fastest if i recall correctly, not sure why, just that's what it allows or is able to do

As long as your serial port has a 16550 uart, your computer can handle a full 115,200bps.

OK, I got 115,200 to work and did get a speed increase. Unfortunatly I forgot my ePods at work today so I can't post directions on how to do it until tomorrow. I did have some problems getting them to sync the first time but got through it.

Details on speed increase:
File size: 4,046,952 bytes as reported by Windows ME or 3,962 KB
File transfer time at 19,200 was about 49 minutes 20 seconds
File transfer time at 115,200 was about 8 minutes 25 seconds
This is darn close to the 6 times speed increase I thought I would see. I account for any variance in the 6 times speed increase as data transfer errors. Maybe also the fact that I measured the time with my wrist watch but the first reason sounds better. :)
No file conversion was done by activesync and I transfer the file to my "Storage Card" both times. The card is a SanDisk 32 MB compact flash. I did transfer it into a directory one time(19,200) and just into the root of the flash the other(115,200.)

With minimum times to transfer the file at 115,200 without any overhead (error correction etc...) at about 5 minutes 51 seconds I think these times seam reasonable.

OK, I got this to work at 115,200 by doing the following.
This was all done after doing the 2.04 Hack. Didn't play with the 1.02 hack much so I don't know if it will work or not.

Create a new connection using REMNET. Call it whatever you want.
List it as a direct connection
Select cable on Com1:
Select configure.
Select the Baud rate of 115200
Everything else should read:
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware
All check boxes should be unchecked
Click OK and then finish

Open the control panel.
Open Communications
Select PC Connection tab
Select Change
Select the connection created.

Run PC Link
It may take running PC link more than once the first time to get it to sync but after you do it the first time it syncs much faster.

NO. Partnerships don't work at all.
