2.04 Full question, please help....

New Message2.04 Full question, please help.... (modified 0 times) Epodfreak
In step 4 of Randy's instructions on the 2.04 full hack it says to "copy the files exactly as they are" to epods system directory. My question is a) is this done using activesync? (as opposed to cf card, etc.) and b) if done thru activesync, due you allow it to "convert to mobile device format" since this is not an 'exact' copy of the 2.04 files?
Thanks for any help!

I did the hack last night, I did the dos command, then deleted the files from the filestor app directly on the ePods, and then I transfered over the new files via ActiveSync. Make sure you give yourself some time, I'd say it took at least 15-20 minutes to copy over all the new files.

Just to be safe, I copied the files to a temp dir on my cf card via activesync (don't have a card reader for my pc), ran the dos commands, deleted the files, then copied them into the epods sytem dir from the cf card.

I guess I didn't want to rely on a serial port communication for file transfer when my epod was in a state where a reset would wipe it out.

just my $.02

cheers

Thanks for the info guys! But how about the "file conversion to mobile device format" using activesync? Allow it or disable it? Thanks.....

i used the serial cable and activesync. i allowed conversions and looked into them. it does things like change bmp extensions and doc extensions, not too big.

I just did the 2.04 full upgrade and somehow my directory structure doesn't seem to be correct. I ended up without the Win_CeFiles directory, and am uncertain as to what else is supposed to be where. I had multiple broken links. I have ported over the Programs directory containing Games and Utilities and placed that in the Win_CeFiles directory (which I made, there wasn't one) and now games and utilities work. When the epods is turned on, I receive a blank screen with the Start link in the bottom left and the time etc in the bottom right, but no logo, as in WinCe.BMP. I have imported the registry about ten to the sixth times. My questions (3) are : (1) Is there a listing somewhere of what the directory structure should be after installation of the 2.04 hack?,(2) Where should what files be to bring up a WinCE screen upon power up? and (3) What screen containing what info should be present after a successful installation of the 2.04 hack? Search of the epods thread on "directory" did not turn up any info. Thanks tons!

Re my previous post. From Goalkeeper (thanks!), the V204 update is supposed to move/rename the directory ePods\system and its contents to \Win_CeFiles\. For some reason, my installation did not accomplish this. I unzipped file204.zip to my CF, renamed it Win_CeFiles, and copied it over to the root directory of the epods, and reran V204.reg update. I now have a DeskTop on boot, and all the links work properly, at least as far as I have checked. However, everything reverts back to where I was after a hard boot. Any ideas?

PorscheMan: After hard reset, you might need to soft reset a couple times. I did the 2.04 hack just now and after getting the blue screen, I was also missing the \Win_CeFiles\ and had broken links. I soft reset once or was it twice as stated on Randy's website and everything was there.

btw doing this hack with a CF card didn't take too long. I think it took less than five minutes to copy all the files over.

Looks like we arrived at the same point from different paths, you with intelligence, me with luck. The last time I updated the registery I must have soft reset a couple of times. I ended up with a new Win_CeFiles directory, and the one I had put on renamed Win_CeFiles2, which I subsequently deleted. All seems well now. Pretty neat little gadget. First external program tried was SpreadCE and I'm very impressed with it. Thanks again!

I've noticed that after doing the 2.04 hack the ePods does not wake from suspend mode correctly.

From a soft reset, open applications like Explorer, IE, or XAudio. Wait around for the ePods to go into suspend mode. Awake the ePods by using the power on button. At this point applications will hang after a few screen clicks. The NIC activity lights do not come on and a soft rest is necessary to get things working again.

Does anyone else experience this problem after the 2.04 hack?

Just did the 2.04 hack. I am wondering if i can free some space up by moving the games and the Utility folder to the Flash Card. Would take cause any problem? What else can i move over to increase space on the ePod itself?

Thanks in advance,

MASJM

I am assuming that everyone is having this problem because they used the dos command to change the file attributes. I dont think the folder was included in the change and therefore could not complete the rename / transfer to Win CeFiles. Just my $.02.
