802.11b wireless - Get IP address, but epods is not online

New Message802.11b wireless - Get IP address, but epods is not online (modified 0 times) nukem
I have a DWL650 802.11b PCMCIA card and a DWL1000AP. The setup works fine on my laptop, and when I use the PCMCIA card on the epod after running the install program for the generic Intersil drivers the card activates and I can ping the epod from the desktop using the DHCP address it receives.

However the ONLINE icon does not activate, the red light does not activate, and I can not browse the web.

I have not changed the WinCE desktop, still generic epod as if a hard reset was done. No registery changes either.

What next?

Download the vxUtils tools and see if you can ping other machines from your pod. I'm using the wavelan (orinoco) card in peer-to-peer mode, and on the pod, the monitoring utility tells me I'm out of range even when I'm not, because of how peer-to-peer networking works. So the first step is to ignore all the signs and see if you can hit other machines FROM your pod. Ping is a good way to do this.

I will try that if I can find it, but I haven't even looked at the tools to see the range indicator.
I am in the same room and I know the devices work because it works fine on my laptop.

Since ping requires partcipation by both devices I don't really see how a successful ping from the epod to my desktop is going to tell me any more than the successful ping I already get from the desktop to the epod.

It seem the problem I have is getting the epod to realize that it should use the LAN adapter instead of a modem dialup connection.

I'm not sure that the icon/light will turn on if you are able to connect to the internet via lan. That light/icon probably only fire when the modem makes a connection. The fact that you get a DHCP address and ping works means that you have a good connection from epods to desktop machine.

Now, it sounds like you need to set up your epod to use the desktop machine to access the internet thru the desktop's internet connection. Check your (working) laptop's configuration and see if it has anything defined like a gateway.
