No way to repair defective epods without service contract

New MessageNo way to repair defective epods without service contract (modified 0 times) mfkap
I recently had problems with my epod touchscreen, and sent it to CMI for repair. I was notified that they will not repair the hardware unless it is under an ISP service contract for 3 years or whatever it is. This means that you might end up paying $500 for an epod, and there is no way to have it fixed. If there is a problem with it, whether you cause the problem yourself, or it is just bad hardware such as I had, you have no way to resolve the problem. Way to go Salton!

Terrible to hear. Others here have not been treated so poorly. I believe Sinner had a motherboard replaced, but perhaps he'll comment directly here. On a related note, what kind of problem did you have with your touchscreen? If you found that it suddenly wouldn't respond -- even after a soft-reset and a hard-reset as well -- you should try removing the battery overnight. I repaired a unit whose screen simply would not respond no matter what (there was no way to calibrate it at all) simply by removing the battery for around 12 hours. Keep us posted.

I had a touchscreen problem (more info in another thread) and right now it seems that everyone that had the problem were also running that "more todo" program. Were you? I could do a soft reset, but still no go. Funny thing is that it would work for a little while after the program was installed!? What I did to fix it was a hard reset. Hope that helps.

Wow, that's awful! I had a problem with my touchscreen too, and (as Micah mentioned) I was running the More ToDo program as well. Did you try a hard re-set? I think pressing the first two left buttons on top will get you the calibration screen. I had done the version 1.0 hack and then the screen wouldn't respond. I did a hard re-set and was back to the virgin ePod. Then I installed version 2.03 of the hack. And I deleted the More ToDo program. After that, I thought I was still having problems because the screen didn't respond properly to my taps. it acted really weird, like not closing programs even though i was tapping and tapping at the X button. but then it responded other times. I was pulling my hair out. Then I thought the stylus might just need to be re-calibrated. So I did that through the Control Panel, and now it works fine.

good luck...

CMI wanted to sign me up for an ISP service contract as well. I ended up fixing it myself. My DOC was scrambled (only showed 2mb), but after numerous formats it finally was corrected to 8mb.

I had sent mine back last month to CMI. When I called to find out how my unit was doing, the repair rep said everything was fixed but she couldn't find me in their 'membership' database. She went on to explain how the ISP service worked and wanted me to sign up right then and there. I told her I got the unit from a friend and I wasn't aware of the ISP contract that was involved. I told her I didn't want to sign for an ISP contract and to send it back to me so that I could give it back to my friend. Got the unit the next day all fixed and everything. Guess I got lucky.

Does anyone want to sell a working DOC?

Mine died after a failed 2.04 hack.
