I just created a connection script with remnet. When creating it you get a choice for using an IrDA modem, I set it to 56K and it worked. You need an account with an ISP (Earthlink for example).

My provider is VoiceStream and I can make connections with regular calls, not data calls. They have a data service, but I don't know enough about GSM to tell you if it makes a difference. What I do know is that I connect and everything works. I can't tell you at what speed though because my software doesn't tell me.

I have an 8290 GSM with Powertel (soon to be voicestream I hear).. anyhow, the IRDA will pick up the phone and attempt to dial but I assume my provider will not allow the call to go through. I am told for $5 per month I can get data services but at around 9600bps, I just don't see wasting $5 per month.
