linksys EC2T problem
can't connect with ec2t

New Messagelinksys EC2T problem (modified 0 times) tony
Help! I have tried everything...I can't get the epod to connect when I use the linksys EC2t ethernet card. Epod recoginizes the card...it just won't connect to the internet when I start up IE.

I have connected to the net with a modem with no problem.

I am using a linksys 8 port dsl sharing switch. the epod is connected to that. I have tried having the epod automatically get an ip address, and also use a static address (198...). I always get the same response...cannot connect to server.

Does anybody have any ideas?

thanks

I had a strange problem...when I had my Iopener connected to a 100mb switch via the linksys ec2t adapter, it gets on the net ok...but when i switched out the 100mb switch with a cheap 10mb hub, it no longer gets on the network...

I have the same problem with Linksys EC2T. I can't get it to work with my Linksys DSL routher. ePods does found the card, however, it keep telling me that it can't find the DHCP server. I have tried the linksys card with my laptop, it worked fine. Anyone have any ideas? I even tried it with the original OS. But no luck.

tony,
I also had the same problem trying to connect my epods to my Linksys cable router using DHCP with the Linksys EC2T card. I fixed this by assigning a static IP address in my epods NE2000 properties window. I used an known IP address within the series of assigned IP addresses my router assigns to any connected computers on my network. I also entered the network primary and secondary DNS addresses in the epods NE2000 properties window. My epods finds the web connection within five seconds of turn on, and is reasonably fast (for a WinCE device) in loading and navigating web pages. Hope this helps.

Just got my EC2T card today from Buy.com. Didn't work with DHCP on the Linksys BEFSR81.
However, following the above directions, it went great guns immediately!

It works!

Thanks. I just needed to add the dns into the epod network properties, and it started to work. Apparently, it doesn't like an auto assigned ip.

thanks to everyone.

I'm using EC2T to connect to my Linksys DSL 4 port without having to assign any dns or anything.
I just let it do the work with DHCP and it just connects.

Would it be possible if you need to update your router's firmware?

OK, thanks for the info, Siamskunk I will try to update my Linksys DSL routher firmware. Hope it will work.

Siamskunk,
Did you have to add any special settings in your 4-port router to accommodate the epods connection? I'm in the same boat as 'donerb' and connecting through a Linksys BEFSR81 8-port Cable/DSL router, and I wasn't able to get the the router to assign an IP address automatically to the epods. Good point though, I will check to make sure I've got a current firmware flash in my router. I'm curious though, what else do you have connected to your router? And, are you using DHCP addressing from your router to all the other computers connected to it? Thanks.

1. I put this on a previous posting, but got no response. The EC2T runs SLOW as a dog with the epods. Any improvement suggestions? This is with machines that are only using TCP/IP as their protocol (i.e. no netbui or ipx clients installed on the shared connection). Also set this up to do DHCP at work on a 100MBPS LAN connection. Still slower than a 56K modem.
2. I too used a linksys 4port cable/dsl router (BESFR41 I believe the part# is). Problems with that if you are thinking about going to it are:
a. Only lets you forward 10 tcp/udp ports. This is not the same animal as an IP address if you don't understand. Sucks if you want to use sites such as hottelephone.com which wants you to forward everything over port 4000 (or something like that #).
b. The last time I did the flash bios upgrade on my router it overwrote all my settings such as admin password. Make sure you document your settings before you apply the upgrade.
c. Static works much better with these than DHCP. Even simple web apps like dialpad.com require you to specify particular tcp/udp ports to be forwarded to SPECIFIC IP addresses. Using DHCP will negate the forwarding if your client's IP addresses change. Also, you can't tell the router to forward those ports to more than one IP address client.
3. I gave up on the router and installed ICS on my win2k server. I'm using a linksys 5 port switch for my clients and they are on 192.168.x.x statics. Works great now.
4. If you are using a static you need to specify the gateway as the IP for the 2nd NIC of your host PC. Don't forget to specify the DNS of your ISP on your EPODS static client.

xterra2000 and Katz,

I have total of 4 puters connecting to the router. Two of those are of my roommate running Linux server connecting to the 4 port switch before going to the router. The other two are mine, each runs directly to the router.

All in all, I did not have to assign anything specifically. I just update to the latest firmware and set the totol # of computers allowed to connect through the router (it's on the linksys setting page, 4th column DHCP.......check if the # allowed to connect matches or exceed total # of puters connected to the router.

For the Epods, I just set it to auto detect DHCP.

Sorry if this doesn't help, I'm a novice in networking world.
Hope you'all can solve this prob soon.
BTW, the surfing experience is still slow due to the nature of processor, for those people who expect an improvement......don't expect too much.

Goodluck

mccallister - What version of firmware are you using on the Linksys? The 1.35+ versions let you forward a range of ports. I backed down to this version due to instabilities in 1.37.

Also, I have a question. I just got my ePod (10 minutes ago) and now need an E-net adapter. I'm not sure what to get. Some posts indicate the EC2T is good, others say it is slow. Is this the best solution or are there other choices. I'm not interested in wireless.

Thanks,
gk

siamskunk, thanks a lot for the info. After I upgrade my linksys DSL routher to 1.37 firmware. Everything work fine, using DHCP without any problem. Thanks again.
However, the connection speeds is really slow. Beside browsing web what else we can do with the network? anyone try avantgo with network?
