Is anybody interested in an epods hack kit?

New MessageIs anybody interested in an epods hack kit? (modified 0 times) katz
After performing the Win CE 2.04 hack myself and trying to pull together all the necessary hardware to make the epods a truly multi-functional handheld device, I thought others might be interested in a hack kit which contains all the necessary hardware/software to 'enable' their epods. Considering all the current activity in people trying to get epods, a kit like this may be useful. Anyway, the kit would include;

1 ea. Linksys EC2T 10MB PCMCIA Type-2 Ethernet card with dongle and software.
1 ea. 32MB Compact Flash card (probably Lexar Media).
1 ea. Compact Flash adapter for 32MB CF card to Type-2 PCMCIA slot.
1 ea. DB9F-to-DB9F Null Modem Cable.
1 ea. 6 ft. CAT-5 Network cable.
1 ea. CD containing all the necessary software (listed on Randy's 'Hack you epods page') to perform the v.2.04 hack.
2 ea. (depending on finding a source...) 1MX16X4 SDRAM chips to perform the 32MB upgrade to the epods memory.

Everything for $190.00 plus shipping (trust me, I'm not making alot on money on this deal).

If anyone is interested, please post here or contact me at davidlmurray@home.com . Thanks.

all right i've kinda kept up on the 32 meg hack, a couple quick questions for ya. are the mem modules listed here the correct ones to use? and secondly do they work on v 1.0 boards or v 1.1 boards. thanks for any reply.

So far only the upgrades to rev. 1.2 boards have been repeatably successful. Glitch upgraded a 1.1 board with memory from another 1.1 board but I have not heard of any other successes with that revision of the board.

The memory moudules you want are 3V PC100 SDRAMs. You need a modules that is 4Meg X 4 Banks X 16 bits. These are fairly generic and made by several manufacturers. Your best bet is to pickup some SODIM laptop memory. A 32Meg PC100 SODIM should have the correct DRAMs. If the SODIM has 4 DRAMs on it then you have the proper configuration. If its PC100 then you have the correct speed and voltage. Its always wise though to lookup the datasheet for the DRAM you plan to use and verify its specs before you install it.

I would be interested if somebody offered a kit with all the correct parts to do the 32MB upgrade, if the price was reasonable.

Why does everyone always forget the cost of shipping, both the price that penny_pincher would have to pay to have all those items shipped to him and the price to package them back up. UPS and USPS and FedEx don't send it to you for free gentlemen.

I made no commentary on the price of the upgrade package. Conveniece is something worth paying for.

But to answer the response that I overlooked shipping I will reply. I did take shipping and convenience into account and that is why all items and links are from a single supplier, Buy.Com. I'm sure I could find cheaper individual prices or maybe even another single source that had everything at a lower price. That wasn't my point. I wanted to know what these things cost.

I used the liks I provided and added one of each to my shopping cart. The total before shipping was $128.99.

Shipping charges were shown as:
$6.17 Standard Ground
$11.24 Second Day Air
$18.71 Next Day Air

What you do with YOUR_A@# is your business, just leave me out of it!

Also penny_pincher, I haven't seen any helpful posts about ePods from you on this BBS, or any other BBS for that matter. If you're willing to provide a better service, by all means, jump right it.

For all the rest... keep ePodding folks! I'm posting this from my rev. 1.1 ePods and loving it!

Katz:

Don't get so defensive. When I saw your original I was interested and I was also interested in what it would cost to buy all of the compoents you had listed. I never implied you should not be paid for putting the kit together or that you were ripping people off. I for one will pay for convenience and service. But I do like to know how much I am paying for the convenience and service. That is why I priced out your parts list and shared it. Given that my list priced out at $135 and that it required the user to desolder the SDRAMs from an SODIMM before using your price is certainly within reason.

I merely provided more information about the items in your kit so people would make a more informed decision. If anything I think it shows that your price is reasonable rather than implying you are ripping people off.

As far as offering help and assistance via this forum, I do. I suspected you might get bent out of shape and I did not want flame war to carry over into other threads of this forum so I assumed the name of penny_picher.

As a quick metric, I searched for katz in the epods forum and 8 threads were found. There may be more as I have had troubles before when searching for something I know is there. I repeated the search on my real nick name and 43 threads were found.
I have provided a variety of answers, solutions, and ideas to this forum and will continue.
