"Free" EPODS

New Message"Free" EPODS (modified 0 times) penclrtist
Looks like they are marketing EPODS as SurfBoards on www.nadapc.com. Free w/ service and $60 shipping and handling. Think we can scam a few for $60ea and ditch on the contract? lol

They want your your Social Security Number just to get on their waiting list!

They also have a 27" HDTV ready TV with built in web browser too. The TV does 480p and 1080i and will accept VGA input. It has a built in line doubler to convert standard NTSC into 480p. It is progressive Scan DVD ready and accepts input from a HDTV receiver. The price is $199 plus a 3 year commitment to their internet service at $21.95 a month.

The web browser uses a MediaGX processor (x86) and has 64K RAM and 16K flash storage. It has a modem and ethernet for broadband connection. It has 2 USB ports and a wireless Keyboard/remote. It claims "Modular Construction" for future upgrades. It runs an embedded version of Linux and uses Mozilla browser.

This would be a fun one to "upgrade!" Here is a link for those interested.

Look, I don't know if anyone out there remembers, but at one point, a LONG time ago, the company that makes the device that both ePods & SurfBoards are using was posted.

I can't remember when to even make a search string to try to narrow down to find it.

If anyone knows who makes those bad boys I think I might try to contact them.

I'd pay ~$200 for an ePod given that I know I'll keep spending and spending. I doubt that I can get one from eBay or anywhere else. Salton said they are out, but I don't trust the phone rep. who was talking to me. She barely knew what end of the phone to talk into.

Woops, back to my point. If anyone can remember what company makes the device I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jon

I believe they wanted something like $599 for an evaluation unit, and they don't sell to the public - they have a minimum purchase order I'm sure (probably like 1,000 units)

If you cancel they bill you for the entire 3 years of service plus the full cost of the unit.
with time, these people will go the way of NetPliance and the WebSurfer. I can't see them doing all that much better than
epods.com did. when they go bankrupt and
dump their inventory maybe we'll get a crack at buying them again.
