mapping network on cmd.exe
[<local name>|*] [<remote name>] [/user:<username>] [/d]

New Messagemapping network on cmd.exe (modified 0 times) jokster
I am trying to map the shared drives on my desktop through my wireless proxim connection
using windows 95 and proxim software to share drives and printers.
i cant seem to get the format right on the cmd.exe everytime it gives me:
Usage: net use [<local name>|*] [<remote name>] [/user:<username>] [/d]

I have mapped on it before but I've never had to worry about the user part. b/c just the local and remote stuff doesnt work. please help

net use desktop (backslash)(backslash)desktopMachine(backslash)share

where desktop is the name which will appear in the epods network folder when connected.
desktopMachine is the name of the desktop machine
share is the shared directory on the desktop machine (like C if you are sharing the C drive)
(backslash) is the backslash key above the enter key. This message board uses backslash as an escape and munges them.

You should also try
net view (backslash)(backslash)desktopMachine
to see if the desktop machine is set up properly for sharing.

I guess its not configured right because it do net view <remote name> and it searches for a minute or two and then says it cant find anything....

but i have my desktop software set to share all drives but A:\
and the desktop shows the two machines sending packets back and forth...
so does the epods....

using proxim symphony cards

I had this problem. I even hava all of my other computers properly sharing files between each other. There are a number of threads on this forum discussing it.

What made mine work was to enable netbios over tcpip on the desktop machine for the lan adapter. There are security implications which may affect you if you do this so check out www.grc.com after doing it.

www.grc.com also has a nice explanation of the windows networking options and how to configure it. It deals with turning off netbios over tcpip for security, but the info about what everything does is applicable anyway.

Although I'm not able to get my wireless sharing down (but I do have wireless ip/internet working), I have one note to contribute.

Under the Control Panel|Network, remember to set up your domain name. I'm pretty suren his has something to do with it.

OT, but "little bean curd", how do you get spaces in your name? Whenever I try it, it always turns to pluses...

Okay, never mind. The answer, I guess, is not to "PREVIEW FIRST" - DOH!
