Sale Price? Epods w/128MB CF Card
How much should I ask?

New MessageSale Price? Epods w/128MB CF Card (modified 0 times) mccallister
The epods initially sounded cool, but I am disappointed in the performance. How much do you think I should ask for this minimum? It's an initial hack ($237 from Fingerhut) plus 128MB CF card.

Um, how about "your actual cost, plus shipping, plus maybe 10-20 bucks"? I wouldn't expect you to sell it at a loss, but if you're going to sell it here, it wouldn't bee very nice to gouge.

It is interesting to note that the prices on eBay have crested and are returning to a more normal (!) amount...

Just take offers. You obviously had to go thru the Fingerhut "experience", you did put some effort into upgrading and you've "burned it in". Some other people have tried to focus in on selling to people that live near by. It's nice of you to offer it thru this group without resorting to EBay.

Just don't sell it to eggplant, he/she really needs to lose the Um, attitude.

Yikes. Sorry, it's been a bad day. I love my pod, and I've done my best to contribute to this group as much as I've been able to. I didn't mean to sound like a jerk (which I guess I did). It's been frustrating watching all the gouging on ebay. I'd offer the two I'm getting from Neiman Marcus this week to the group, but they are already spoken for by friends (at cost).

Sorry, McC, no harm intended.

Not all of it is gouging... I purchased two (heh, take 2 they're small :), but my chief financial officer said I needed to get rid of at least one. I started my bidding at $5 with no reserve. It's now up to what I've got into it with shipping/taxes. The other sellers that started their bidding at $400 or so just didn't get any bidders...

I just put my faith in a well designed (?) and informative ad...(my sale)

I figure folks'll pay what they think it's worth...

Nice ad

You do know that eBay prohibits passing on the fee that paypal sticks you with, yes? Take a look at http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-list.html and scroll down to "Payment Surcharges". Sucks, but what can you do. I use Paypal too, but I wonder for how much longer.

You are right that some of the ones starting at $400 don't sell, but I've only been looking at the actual closing prices for them. They've crested, and are now down to around $300 again. Interestingly, the hacked vs. ready-to-hack offerings don't significantly differ in price, and the extra options (CF cards, keyboards, CD-R's of the hackyourepods site, etc) don't seem to add enough to the price to pay for themselves. You'll do better selling the CF separately (as it seems you've done -- or else you're keeping it).

I think I am going to get out of the epods club myself, so if anyone here is interested send me an offer @ shadowedge@hotmail.com

I am going to try and make a profit, but not looking to "gouge" people with the $400+ sale.

Oh yeah, it is out of the box, performed the basic hacks and have the easy version of the WinCE shell (never bothered going the whole distance :))

Is $400 really gouging when the device sells for $499 + service fee now? We all know this thing is worth way more than the $200 we originally paid for it. If you sell it to someone at cost of $200 what is to prevent them from turning around and selling it for $400? Is it better that the extra $200 is in your pocket or someone elses?

Actually I don't think the device sells for $499, it may be priced there but I haven't heard of anyone actually paying that.

And yes it is gouging, anytime that you charge double what you paid for something I think that qualifies. There is the chance of someone turning around and charging more from someone else but if you do it then it is a sure thing.

This project has progressed due to the free eforts of some very talented people and piggy backing on thier efforts to make a few bucks is annoying.

I have been looking for a second ePod so that I can be a little more aggressive with hardware hacking without the fear of destroying my only 'Pod but with this rampant price war it is impossible.

The worst offenders in my opinion are the ones that see a good deal posted by others then buy up the stock and then resell on Ebay at inflated prices (HP Laptop from Walmart.) I am a capitalist so I don't think this is particularly wrong just annoying that they use the information that they made no effort to genertate and scam those who it was intended for. I figure they will get stuck with a large load of merchandise someday and it will eat up all of thier profits.

Reading the policies, I know if I was a Mastercard/Visa vendor, I couldn't charge a fee (it's the credit card companies policy and enforced by them), and Paypal couldn't charge a fee to the card holder (which is why they charge a fee to the recipient). It may be a gray area, but I think it's a defensible position that I myself am not accepting credit cards, therefore am not covered by the exclusions mentioned.

I only offer Paypal as a service to buyers, it is a pain to extract the money from them...

Thanks for the info (and compliment on my ad),

Patrick
