My epod surfs the internet properly through my BEFSR411 Cable Router, but when I run Personal Web Server on my desktop the epod can not find the web pages while my other machines can. The epod complains that it can not find the specified server. Any suggestions?

I've been able to browse my local web hosted by my desktop machine by specifying the local IP address of the machine in the URL. I'm using an SMC Barricade router with cable modem connection. Works just great.

You wouldn't be happening to access your page at 127.0.0.1 would you? That is the loopback address which is only accessible from the server. If that's the case, find your real IP address via winipcfg (start->run->"winipcfg"->OK). If it still doesn't work, make sure the epods and the desktop can talk to each other. If you have the epods hack (either one I think), you can run IPADDR (start->programs->system) to find your IP address and ping it from the desktop (open up a dos window and type ping ***.***.***.*** where the stars are your IP address.) Alternatively you can use the nettools program (in the same place) and ping your desktop.
