There are two things in the description of doing the 16-bit video hack on the "Fun Stuff" page that didn't work quite that way for me. First, I had to put the bmp file in both \epods dialer\ifc and \windows to get it to take. Second, contrary to what it says there, it was possible to get a registry editor without ActiveSync -- the one recommended for getting the CE shell did the job fine.
I've made my own mainbar image that's a bit more colorful than the ones provided. It's an image of a fjord and waves crashing against rocks. In 8-bit mode it paints very slowly but in 16-bit mode it's pretty much instant. Is there any interest in sharing images like this, or does everyone just make 'em as they like 'em?
