Hey, my name is Derek and I thought that some of you people could help me out. I am using the geocities.com/epodsfiles website as a basic guide.
I have a question though. I really at this point am not worried about putting Win CE files on the epod, I am just interested in the internet capabilities of the unit using my own ISP. Do I need any other modem cards or anything or is the modem that the company sent fine, and will it work? Does anyone know of any complications with the hack information provided by hackyourepod? Thanks.

Nothing else is needed, but a little time and patience.

Yes...patience is needed to dial up, my ISP takes 5 to 10 attempts to get on...
But it's a CHEAP one so I guess I get what I pay for, it's only $4.99 a month.

Has anyone had any problems with the hacking of the epod using the information that Randy has provided at /www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/ ? Does it make any difference if I have had a service account with Epods? I had service until they went under. That won't complicate anything right?
So, what do I skip if I don't want the ability to add Win CE files to the Epod? Is it difficult to set it up to accept win ce files? ( I mean the transfer of the files, etc.) Thanks for the help...

If you are used to the slow dial up speed with the EPODs ISP then switching to another will not make much of a difference. The 1.x hack is harmless and all you need to do is cold boot your epod to bring it back to an original state. Best thing is add memory externally with a card so you have more storage. Bring up colors to 16 bit. And maybe later on hack the internal memory to 32 megs from 16. Even better is to make it a terminal client and with that you can surf a lot faster.

Great advice.... like I said before, have any complications been found in the hacking of the epod? Will I have a Windows CE device after performing the hack? I mean, will it look similar (taskbar.) to pocketPC units?
How long is the hacking supposed to take? I will start working on it tomorrow, and hopefully have it done tomorrow evening.

No problems with the 1.x hack. Yes with the 2.x hack...do a search in the message threads for more info. I don't how close the 1.x hack is to real CE. I only know the Epod CE. I have a Palm Pilot. Think its some MIPS custom variant of CE written for Epods buried within the read only eprom.
