Best Source for Memory Chips?

New MessageBest Source for Memory Chips? (modified 0 times) SiliconIce
Those of you who have upgraded your epods, what is the best source for memory chips? Cheapest?

I was looking at Glitch's kits on his site for $20, I might get one of those.

Another question, I have *very* little soldering experience, but I still am planning to give this a whack, how likely is it that I'll screw up? I'm pretty cautious, but I don't know...

Glitch's kit is a steal for $20.

If you don't have any soldering experience there is a 95% chance that you'll have a hard time with it. You'd be better of bringing it to the local electronic store/tv repair place and have them do it.

You think that they would do it? Probably charge too much...

My dad's an EE, I think his office probably has a nice soldering station I could use. I want to learn how anyway. Hard is OK, I just don't want to ruin it.

I would strongly suggest, to use some scrap electronics parts to practice soldering first,
and get your first finger burns out of the way!
then once you are confident you can try it. Get a nice night sleep and don't dring the night before, yo need your pulse to be in optimous condition.

Tips:
Get one of those magnifying lens lamp, fine tip 25Watt soldering pen, a temperature regulated station is the best. also, get some wet sponge to clean the tips, and other soldering accessories to cleanup over-soldering.

good luck, and patience will pay off.!

Profile
SiliconIce: Usually if there is a nice soldering station, there is also someone who knows how to use it (but not always :p). Find out who that person is and talk him/her into teaching you how to solder correctly. It is not that hard if you have the right equipment and plenty of practice.

Get a old card that you don't care about. Pick a card that still works. Practice desoldering/soldering chips and SMD components on that board. After you have R&R'd a few parts, try the board to see if it still works. Keep doing this until you get good at soldering. Then work on your ePods. HTH.

Electronics run on smoke, if you let the smoke out they won't work
