Possible Hack v2.05
I have modified v2.04 hack to include ie4 and ie3 files and to put approriate links on online menu, is anyone interested in me making the files available ?

New MessagePossible Hack v2.05 (modified 0 times) Graham Howe
I am in the process of hacking 14 ePODs (9 done so far) and to make my life easier I modified the v2.04 files to include ie4 and to put links for ie3 and ie4 on the online menu. All of this is of course retained following a hard reset so it removes any need to download ie4 and set a shortcut to it. It occured to me that this might constitute v2.05 and that others here might be interested. So if there is any interest in these files I'll zip them up and send them to Randy.

I have also been forced to develop a few shortcuts in the hacking process, for example I never create the three files to defeat the logon, I never delete epods.exe and I don't load up the active sync files as all of these changes are already in v2.04. So I simply get past the logon screen, create a 56700 direct connection and set it as default, set the attributes of all files in epods system and then connect to the PC. From that point I delete all files and copy new ones across using Activesync. Then import the registry once only, do a hard reset, calibrate the screen, import the registry once more, do a soft reset and that is it. I usually create a new 56700 connection as the first is lost with the hard reset and then install other applications to the compact flash via active sync.

Using this procedure I have hacked 9 ePODs without a hitch, without any print() error and everything works fine.

Incidentally I had my original unit hacked to v2 and again using activesync I deleted the contents of Win_ and copied the contents of my version of v2.04, imported the registry, did a hard reset, calibrated screen, imported registry and did a soft reset. Everything is fine on that one too.

Regards

Graham

Wow. What are you planning to do with 14 ePods?

I am keeping 5 for use in Home Automation and was going to use the rest as demo pieces for a project I was developing. However with other priorities and the total lack of ePODs at sensible prices, I have decided to sell the ones I'm not using. I have sold them to others in the UK Home Automation community at a little above cost (to cover the fact that I have hacked them and imported them). I could have put them on eBAY but I never bought them as an investment and didn't think it fair on those in this group who have put in so much work for nothing.

I have a v1.02 that I'm considering blowing away and rebuilding with v2.04 (or .05!) and would certainly be interested in a simpler way to do it.

Hi, Graham, Smakz is making progress with respect to fixing the bookmarks problem with IE4. Once that happens,we'll designate it as v2.05. Good idea!

Ay idea on approximate timeframe for the 2.05 hack, Randy? I was planning on doing the 2.04 on Tuesday; should I wait?

Does this thread suggest that the Win_CE directory can be deleted? I've noticed some duplicate files sitting around in the ePods diretories - are any safe to delete? I'm trying to get some additional Flash files to play and I keep on running out of memory.

busdepot, no need to wait... just like every time before, there will be a very simple and quick upgrade. (We're still probably looking at another 2 weeks before Smakz can spare some more of his valuable time.)

Chicago: As far as I know deleting Win_CE would be very bad, the files in there are copied across to recreate the windows directory following a hard reset. I would think that deleting these files then doing a hard reset would be a good way of killing an ePOD.

Graham: Referring to your earlier message in this thread, I am new to EPODS (mine arrives today!) and I bought it with home automation in mind. Would be very interested to hear what you have accomplished with it so far, and secondly, do you have any of your 13 left for sale in the uk ??
Thanks
Alex

None left for sale I'm afraid. As far as HA goes, I am currently putting in loads of cables. Thus far 1300m of CAT5 plus about 300m each of CT100, Speaker and shielded alarm cable. Once this is all in and terminated, I will then look at HA including ePOD. I have already controlled x10 devices from ePOD by browsing ACE web server on the Intranet that is in turn connected to a HomeVision controller. This is probably the way I will go as I have all the hardware and software, however I am plaaning to develop my own web interface based on a floor plan of the house.
