New company shipping epods

New MessageNew company shipping EPODS (modified 0 times) cyberhh
The ISP www.nadapc.com is selling/shipping more epods.

Quite a crap shoot as the devices are free but they want 21.95/mo for 3 years for the service. The question is will they go out of business first? But, for free I am ordering one or two.

Don't expect that same mistake to be made twice. Sensibly enough, they are not following the Epods business model. Therefore, even if they do go out of business expect to pay a monthly fee either way.

And when I read their agreement, it said that if you cancelled service, you had to return the pod, or get hit with a *huge* charge. Since they are doing other things in addition to pods, I doubt they are in nearly the same amount of jeopardy that epods inc. found themselves in.

Um, you know that's $800 you'll be paying for it, right? There are a number of better things out there for less IMO.

Although, I 'spose cyberhh could be a nadapc person trying to hype thier deal.

Works for NadaPC!?!? Nah, I'm sure he just hasn't read the fine print.

I considered signing up for a NadaPC. It would be very useful to see what the differences are between it and the ePods. If it had WinCE3 on it I would be much more interested.

I read the agreement as saying that if you cancel you pay the rest of the entire 3 years worth of payments *AND* also pay them for the full cost of any devices. Note it also says "termination or cancellation". Does that mean if they terminate your service that you owe the full three years and pay for the device?

"Upon termination or cancellation of Service, the Member will be charged for the full balance of their Membership obligation, minus any payments that have already been paid to NadaPC. In addition, the member shall remit to NadaPC the full cost of the Devices provided by NadaPC."

Didn't epods have the exact same business model? Same thing with Netpliance? ie: sell units for cheap and lock people into long-term isp contracts. Hell, Virgin had the exact same plan with the websurfer. What's the difference here? Do you have to pay the 3-year fee up front or something?

New MessageNadaPC does an online credit app. If you pass, you get the pod. If not, you get to pay up front. (modified 0 times) itsvincer
I checked it out. The wording on their site implies that few will get units first.

Thanks for the responses, I will ask about the termination and Windows Ce and hope someone can answer my questions. I will also continue to try Ebay.

It is still cheaper than ePods was. Cancel and they want the full ISP cost plus you pay for the unit.

IMHO NADA PC is smoke and mirrors. Ask yourself a few questions:

When are they going to ship? If they bought the remaining eZEX inventory in October then they should have shipped by now.

If they have customers, how come there is not a "Hack Site" yet?

Thousands of customers signed up to get an iMAC for free from them. They never got product.

Surfboard brand name is owned Motorola for modems. Nadapc will be sued if they ship product.

Did you notice that they actually use the sames product images from the ePods web site to show the product. They just put their logo on the screen. Why not shoot their own photos?

Interesting stuff from the NADAPC order page. They never say when you'll get the product until after you give them your credit card. They also ask for the following:

Social Security Number
Date of Birth
Gender (male or female)

From the FAQ section:
Can I purchase a SurfBoard?
We are reserving all of the near-term production of the SurfBoard to satisfy our new membership. Consequently, there are no SurfBoard devices available for sale through NadaPC

When will I receive my SurfBoard?
We'll start shipping the SurfBoard in late March 2001. Once you sign up, you will receive an email confirmation with complete shipping information.

How much is shipping and handling?
Shipping and handling for your SurfBoard is just $59.99

I tried to order for 21.99/month. They declined my credit in 2 seconds and offered to sell the upfront payment plan for $689

The one thing they are good at is generating press. Other than that, I do not get it.

So, I hate to burst your bubble however people who order fropm Nadapc will get "NADA".

Just my opinion.
