| Don't know about cheap, but I standardized my house on Lucent/ORiNOCO WaveLan cards. I run the silver version, which supports WEP encryption. These cards run at 11mb. I also run mine purely in ad-hoc (peer-to-peer) mode, and have a dedicated server for the house running Win2k server. The server acts as a DHCP and DNS server, and the other machines (the ePods included) get their IP address information that way.
I also run Terminal Services on the win2k box. This allows the ePods to act like a remote win2k console, which makes surfing *tons* faster, since all the processing is done at the server. It also means that you get all the perks of IE5 or whatever browser you prefer, along with all of your other standard windows apps.
It is way cool to be able to carry the pod off to the bathroom for some surfing -- better than reading the magazines that have been in there for months... | |
