Motorola StarTac 7860w works!

New MessageMotorola StarTac 7860w works! (modified 0 times) ouzome
OK, I know this a pretty inclusive topic, but anyone who has a StarTac should try it with their ePods.
I got mine to work without too much trouble, and now I can connect from anywhere (too bad it's only at 14.4 though).
I used the rip-off motorola serial cable to phone cord, created new connection with remnet, chose 19200 (won't work with 14400), entered "RF" into the three fields in the Configuration Edit section (without quotes), and forced it to bring up terminal screen after modem connects. enter username, password, hit OK right when you see messed up text, and you're flying at 14.4!
(hint: you can opt to not view pictures in IE which helps with the speed)
I also got the IR to work with my HP 2100 laser printer, using the PCL drivers, but I think other people have done that, too.

hopefully this helps someone. . .man am I having too much fun with $200

ouzome

Instead of the overpriced Motorola cable, I use one made by Belkin which works great and costs about $40 from CompUSA. Info on the cable can be found here.

New MessageRE:Motorola StarTac 7860w works! (modified 0 times) Eric
I have a Nokia 9000i which I am trying to replace with the first bluetooth phone I can find.... but that's another story. At home I use a 802.11b card, but I wanted to try the 9.6kbps modem built into the phone for travel.

It seems to call, present the username and password and then disconnect from the modem as the ppp session starts. The modem stays connected. Apparently I have missed something.. Any ideas?

I am connecting to Mindspring / Earthlink. If I force the terminal I can manually get to the ppp session and then when I hit "continue" it disconnects from the modem.

Thanks
