Connecting to 3COM AirConnect AP
Can't get ePod to talk to AirConnect AP

I'm trying to get my ePod's onto my wireless network. I have two 3COM AirConnect access points (on different channels) already installed in the house, and can connect to them fine via the 3COM AirConnect PCMCIA cards and a Compaq (Prism) PCMCIA card. I saw that the 3COM won't work (the drivers can't even find the card), so I tried my Compaq card. The drivers find my card and it searches, but even with the SSID correct (I did double check the registry just to make sure the UI didn't screw up) I can't get a connection. I tried both the Compaq and then the Intersil drivers, same result. Realizing the firmware was a bit older I reflashed to the current Compaq firmware, but that didn't fix it either.

The cards are in Infastructure mode (same as the cards in the laptops), and I spent most of the night trying to get it working to no avail. Anyone else connection to a 3COM access point thru any other 802.11b card on the ePod?

Im going to try and buy two of the Linksys cards after work, but since they seem very similar to the Compaq (same drivers) I don't have much confidence in that 'fix'.

Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated!
Bill

The DLINK work great for me, if you are buying new cards, you might try this one out and I can help with it perhaps.

Man, user is an idiot error. It turns out I have a 'dead' spot for RF coverage on the 2' by 4' desk I was using to work on the ePods (the laptop, not 14" away got RF fine). The Linksys cards did detect signal better than the Compaq (the indicator turned yellow, so I walked out of the room and closer to the AP and green baby green!).

I'm gonna have to mount the AP's up on a wall somehere, I have them on a table and I think it's just too low.

Best,
Bill

I don't know much about the ePod as far as CE versions, but you can get the latest 3Com Airconnect drivers at http://www.symbol.com/services/downloads/spec24_firmware_2_2.html (they are made by Symbol). Also, the 3Com & Symbol APs need the "Short Preamble" disabled to work with some of the other cards. Short headers yeild better performance, but some manufacturers don't support it (Lucent).

One more thing, if you decide to update your 3Com AP from the Symbol site, you must update to Ver 1.5.x first before you go to a 2.x release. (If you are already on a 2.x release you don't need to do this)

Thanks for the link! Do you happen to know if it's safe to upgrade over what 3Com calls the 1.5x versions? (sounds like it is, but thought I'd ask). Also, I couldn't tell what was new in the 2.x release (any chance they made any improvements for the security issues found in WEP?)
