I don't know what you'd do with a non-portable, non-battery backed up device that doesn't have a touchscreen even if you could hack it. Maybe use it as a Linux server? If you could cotrol what it showed and when, then it could also display news items, calender reminders, etc. Right now you have to submit pics to it and then it just scrolls through them. If content could be generated dynamically and sent to the frame to be displayed it could act as a picture frame for a portion of the day, break in with news briefs, announce new e-mail messages and display daily appointments first thing in the morning. Sure, a hacked webplayer can do all that and more, but for people who have signifficant others who don't like a PC in every room, the small picture frame concept is nice and unobtrusive.
