I've added a case area to the ePods32 website. It currently only has two cases featured.

Site #1 and Site #2

I am looking for more case ideas. I will work with you to get a page on your case up on the site if you wish.

Real Nice photo work on the site Glitch. I had not thought of the tab extender. I understand that if you can find an Office Depot that still has the Meads they are down to 22 cents. If your OD is out they have a very similar one designed for teachers at $12. Still an OK price for such a flexible cover.

In case you can't find the Mead folio, I just bought the last 5 at my local Office Depot. Let me know if you would like one. I have a couple different colors to choose from...

Sadlerjon,

I'm interested - please e-mail me info at:
gman888@hotmail.com.

Also, how does the Mead for teachers differ from this one?

Do you have dimensions of each and item # for the Mead for teachers?

New MessageYou want pictures of other cases? (modified 0 times) Hunter Green
I got myself one that's smaller than any of those I've seen, so it's more snug a fit, not really any bigger than the ePods itself. Should I get out the digital camera and take a few pictures and send them somewhere?

New MessageRE:Case Area added to the ePods32 Website (modified 0 times) busdepot
Someone on the bbs originally suggested a hard plastic clipboard holder, which can be found at most office supply stores (i.e. Staples) for under $10 (in Epods Blue, no less). I originally bought one for my epods, and found it easy to customize it with some foam rubber to make a nearly perfectly sized "hard case" with compartments for the epods accessories. I'm actually pretty proud of how it came out; when time allows I'll try to snap a picture of it and send it to Glitch for his website.

I later found three of the Mead notebook folios that have been oft mentioned here (on closeout at Office Depot). I learned, to my surprise, that some of them fit absolutely perfectly inside the aforementioned clipboard holder - like a glove! You'd think they were meant for eachother! This means that if you have the notebook folio as your "soft case," you can buy one of these clipboards and when you need a hard case for travel, simply slip the notebook folio (with epods inside it) right into the clipboard holder! Presto - you have a hard plastic case, with the notebook folio acting as an inside cushioned layer for added protection. It's a great combination.

But there is a catch. Apparantly there are two versions of the Mead notebook folio, with the identical part number. Newer versions have a big "5-Star" logo on the velcro strap; older stock doesn't. We'll call them V1.01 and V1.02. The ones WITHOUT the logo on the strap (it is on the front of the folio instead) will fit inside this clipboard holder - but ones with the logo on the strap are a tad larger, and too big to fit. So if you buy one, grab an older one if you can.

New MessageMy case (same size as the ePods itself) (modified 0 times) Hunter Green
The case I bought was an At-A-Glance organizer from Staples for about $14. I don't recall if it's leather or just leatherette. It is just the same size as the ePods so the whole is quite portable. Plus it has lots of pockets for papers, PC cards and CompactFlash cards, etc. Instead of a velcro closure flap, this one slides into a loop, which gives a more secure closure but takes an extra second to open and close.

Where do I send pictures?

busdepot: Good catch on the folio size. I ended up with a few of both versions of the folios. I never noticed the size difference before you mentioned it.

I'd be glad to put pictures of your case setup on the ePods32 website. You know where to send them.

everyone: FYI, The "newer" 1.02 folios are about 3/8" wider than the "older" 1.01 ones. Both versions are the exact same height. IMHO, the blue color of the older version is a better color match to the ePods. I'll try to get pictures of the two versions up on the website within the next few days.

Just an FYI -

My Office Depot's are out of the oft mentioned binder, so I went ahead and got the next smaller version, which has a zippered edge. It's too small by a @#$%-hair.

Still looking..

To the gentleman that had the custom made ePods case made - what should we ask for? Can you send some pics?

I believe the Teacher's version (to be called 1.02-T) looks like it is identical to the 1.02 version except for the wire ring binder itself, which is of course discarded. These too seem to be starting to go on clearance at about $6. Sorry I did not get a sku. The blue original Mead Folio 1.01 Measures 11 7/8 by 9 1/4 by about 1 1/8" thick with Epods attached. Be warned, neither Glitch nor myself can be held accountable for any damage to the Epods that may occur when upgrading versions, so choose wisely.

All these ideas are great, but what about us luckless souls who have a wireless card sticking out the top? Anyone found a case that can handle that?

eggplant: luckless souls? I don't have wireless yet :(. Maybe someday...

Have you thought about doing something like profeign did with his wired network card? You could remove the antennae and mount it internally. Then you could have a slick looking outer package without protrusions. I'm not sure how this would affect the transmission range. You also may be able to mount a better antennae and increase the range. This sounds like a good subject for a new thread.

I have a Hunter Green's pictures up on the ePods32 site.

Here is a direct link.

I also added a page for the factory ePods cases that seem to have surfaced recently.

Here is a link

I am calling them ePods Underground Cases since they are not availiable through normal retail channels.

I used a CD Wallet 104 9by case Logic)for my case. The CD insert pulls out and then has a very nice fit pocket for the Epod to slide in. The zippered case is padded and has pockets for stuff, both inside and out. Found mine off of the Internet for $17 shipped.

The wireless with an internal antenna is a really cool idea, but I neither have the time nor the willingness to risk my functional setup to try it.

As for the ePods branded neoprene cases, since the company is bust, what would be the problem with taking a generic (non-branded) case to one of those "instant monogrammed hats"-type places at various malls? They sometimes have the ability to scan in custom artwork and computer embroider the design onto hats, etc. Why not scan the ePods logo from the little plate on the pod? (Or print out the artwork from their old website...)

Just a thought. Luckily, I'm not in critical need for a case, since mine lives at home. Being wireless and tied to a Terminal Server makes it less desireable for off-premises use, although I'll be buying a copy of Streets and Trips for the next road trip we take. It would have saved our butts when we got lost in Toledo.

eggplant: AFAIK, ePods is not totally defunct. You should be careful using their trademarked logo. Also, they may have transferred the rights for the logo to either CMI or Salton. Of course, this only important if you are planning to something more than make a few cases for yourself. I doubt that any company would go through the effort/expense to stop you from using the logo on a few "personal use" cases. YMMV.

Don: yes, that's the item exactly. Glad you found it because I didn't have any of the original packaging or anything to identify it by, and it had no product number or anything on it, or at least on the parts of it I have left (I threw away the insert that I'd cut out). It was only $14.99 at my local Staples but the site lists it at $16.63 -- go figure.

I purchased and received one of the ePods cases, but if doesn't have a handle or any convenient way to carry it by itself. If you plan on tossing your ePod into another bag then I recommend it as it is a very nice product.

If you plan to carry yours alone then I suggest you try the modification I made to the Caselogic case that works very nicely.

If you open the flat zipper on the back side and use a razor to slice open the material underneath the flap that the zipper is attached to you can remove the white foam material. Use this foam as a template and cut a piece of cardboard (I used an old 3 ring binder that I removed the inner cardboard) and slip them both back into the case. I put the cardboard between the white foam and the padded liner of the main pouch. Apply some doubled sided tape to the foam and reattach the fabric near the zipper.

It now feels about the same as before but has a rigid inner wall that will protect the screen from stray objects. The other plus is if you carry the case alone it has a nice accesory pouch for your wallet and cell phone.

The cdProject CD Cargo Binder (cdbpg0-104) is free after $15 rebate this week (April 1-7) at CompUSA:
http://www.cdprojects.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?product=portable:cargo:CDBPGO104

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?prodzip=&product_code=279935

It is fairly well made; the cd holder portion
will slide out and you are left with a slightly padded nylon case with a carrying strap and outside pouch. The front, back, and spine inside are some vinyl-covered material about as stiff as the average binder (probably cardboard or plastic). The front and back have nylon pockets from the edge to the spine where the CD holder covers fitted - these would cover up any reinforcing materials you might want to insert instead like thin metal or extra plastic.

The epods will fit into the inside mesh pocket but would probably look a lot better using the velcro-mount method on the other, blank side of the case.

I'm not sure how this case compares to the Case Logic one. Probably a lot of cd carrying pouches that hold 4 cds per page would be suitable. The advantage to these is that most don't have a ring binder attached to the spine. The disadvantage is that they are somewhat larger than notebook paper binder cases.

I picked up a cheap ($3.99) computer case at the local BigLots (clearance store). It has an inside velcro strap to hold the pod in place, and an outside pocket big enough for the charger, active sync cord, etc. Both a shoulder strap and carrying handle are provided. I'll try to get my digital camera and take some pictures.
