Best strategy leveraging new 64MB CF card
CF card management

New MessageBest strategy leveraging new 64MB CF card (modified 0 times) Eric
BTW: Dell has 64MB CF cards for $73.

What is the best strategy to free as much memory for video and programs on the Epod?
I have begun uninstalling, deleting, and moving files. When I reinstall I target the new card. I would like to install a shell, can I get more of the OS on the CF card? Can /Windows or /ePods system be moved?

Thanks for all the experts who have cleared and paved the way!!!!
Eric

Just go to pricegrabber and do a search for compact flash. the 64mb kingston is going for $75 plus $5 shipping (no tax in California too). Or if you're into price matching, you can get a 128mb for around $110, just find the kingston 128mb at staples, price match it with buy.com and use a $30 of $150 coupon then send for the $30 rebate.
this info is ripped off from ben's, gotta go find the coupon codes yourself.

staples item number IM1536325 $250

buy.com item number 10246145 $166

buy.com will not pricematch if you use coupon.

Eric: The best strategy for freeing up memory for video and programs is to add more memory. Well, that is the kind of thinking that made Bill Gates rich <g>.

You are pretty much stuck with where programs install their files. Some programs will install completely onto CF. It is more common that the program will use a combination of CF and the Windows directory on the RAMDISK. If the program insists on running the dll's from the windows directory, there is not much you can do about it. You may be able to play with the PATH, but I haven't successfully made this work. If you install enough of these programs you will eventually fill up the RAMDISK. This is one of the major motivations for the ePods32 upgrade.
